JURASSIC WORLD: There Are No Immediate Plans For Another Movie Following DOMINION's Release This Summer

Jurassic World: Dominion arrived in theaters earlier this year, ending that era of storytelling. Now, we have an update on what happens next, and it appears Universal Pictures has no immediate plans...

Jurassic World: Dominion arrived in theaters to mixed reviews earlier this summer, though those did little to decrease interest in the threequel. The movie ended up grossing just over $1 billion at the worldwide box office by the end of its run, but with the trilogy now over, there are a lot of questions surrounding where the series goes next.

It doesn't appear as if the core Jurassic Park or Jurassic World actors will be back for another sequel, anyway, and Colin Trevorrow has even expressed interest in potentially taking the franchise down the R-Rated horror route.

While time will tell on that front, The Wrap (via SFFGazette.com) is reporting that insiders have told them "serious talks on greenlighting another 'Jurassic' film haven’t started yet." That's definitely a somewhat disappointing update, and one which suggests any sort of decision about the future won't be made until well into 2023 (or beyond).

Universal Pictures is a studio with only a handful of massively profitable franchises, though, so we're sure they'll revisit the Jurassic movies sooner rather than later.

In October, Trevorrow weighed in on Jurassic World: Dominion being marketed as the franchise's final chapter, making it clear he hopes to continue telling stories in this world for years to come.

"I never knew that this was the ending of the franchise until I saw the marketing. Those guys are brilliant at what they do, but for me I think it might have been clearer if they’d said, ‘The end of an era’, as opposed to all of it," he said"Because regardless of the cynical approach – of course they’re gonna want to make more money, which is what Jurassic World was about – a new dinosaur fan is born every day. Kids deserve these movies, and young filmmakers grow up on these stories."

Regardless of whether it's a horror movie, a post-apocalyptic adventure in a world overrun by dinosaurs, or something completely unexpected, we do expect more Jurassic movies to be released. It's a little surprising a TV series hasn't happened, though we're sure Universal would rather focus on those all-important box office receipts for now.

What are your hopes for the franchise moving forward?
