THE MATRIX RESURRECTIONS Spoilers: Here's How The Movie Brings Neo And Trinity Back From The Dead

One of the biggest questions fans had when The Matrix Resurrections was first announced, was how the sequel would bring Neo (Keanu Reeves) and Trinity (Carrie-Anne Moss) back to life. Find out right here.

The Matrix Resurrections is now playing in theaters and on HBO Max (you can check out our review here), so we decided to address one of the biggest questions fans had about this long-waited sequel when it was announced that both Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss would reprise their respective roles.

Both Neo and Trinity were killed-off at the end of Revolutions in pretty definitive fashion, with the former giving his life to save the human city of Zion after his one true love died in his arms when their ship crashed. Thankfully, this is not glossed over, and we are given an explanation for their return - even if it's not a particularly satisfying one.

Major spoilers follow.

Basically, it's revealed that The Analyst (Neil Patrick Harris) is really The Architect from the original trilogy, who decided to bring Neo and Trinity back to life after the events of Revolutions and plug them into a new version of The Matrix. You might be wondering how this was possible since our heroes died in the real world, and... you'd be absolutely right to. It really doesn't make a whole lot of sense, but, evidently, one of The Architect's many abilities involves human resurrection.

Why he needed to plug them back in is also a little murky, but it's suggested that their bond is powerful enough to generate a completely new digital world where the humans would be more docile.

Oh, and it is also made clear that Neo's sacrifice wasn't completely in vain. There was a period of peace in which some machines actually defected to the human cause, and, they learned how to make strawberries!

So I guess I was right it was another incarnation of The Matrix. Was kinda hoping I would've been wrong though

Overall the movie seems to be quite The Meta-rix. I wish I didn't know as much as I do now, based on reading a single review. I think maybe the movie would've been able to win me over if it'd been given the chance to surprise me. Now I'm not sure I'll even watch it in the theater, which pains me, because I really like the cast.

I never considered Neo as dead. In the movie it was even teased that we might See him again. So imo no big deal. But Trinity, well she was dead.

I was hoping the "real world" would be revealed to be just another layer of the Matrix like in 13th Floor and they find out and manage to get out now

@AnungUnRama - exactly what I always thought. The matrix contingency should've been teased in the end of Revolutions. Damn.

Well, I’ll make it my head canon cause this movie sounds like it's shit.

The movie was pretty good. Action doesn't live up to the original trilogy though, but the story IMO was less convoluted, which was good. Carrie Ann Moss IS a Milf, as Jude stated. lol. Only gripe is that he stakes never felt real and was more a trip down memory lane than a proper sequel.

I've said it before watching it, but as meta as the movie was, anyone else feel them using the majority of their Sense8 cast makes it feel like a spiritual sequel to that show? even the way they shot it with have the characters there, even when not?

I'm secretly hoping this movie get people to rediscover that show and bring about another revival..... It worked once already.

Actually really decent movie, less convoluted and more focused than Matrix 2 and 3.

7/10

@AmazingFILMporg - there was very few action sequences, most of it is at the end. The way they left it, I would definitely like to see Matrix 5, especially after that ending. It's an 8 out 10 for me. It's different, but good different. It does feel like an updated remake of the first film in many ways.

This Matrix is about a director who lost the touch and a movie studio that won't stop gambling on her

The Architect at the end of Reloaded: This version of The Matrix is different since Neo fell in love for Trinity and won't choose the "other" door to get back into reboot the system loop with few chosen humans. And that's the only time when machines were defeated!

The Analyst in Resurrections: The only way for The Matrix to work properly is to have Neo and Trinity both some sort of "bond", they are not suppose to fall in love but also stay somewhat connected. And guess what? He lost again!

What the actual F? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

It felt like a tv movie. The story though was entertaining. The flashbacks in the movie made me realise what was missing. The greenish hue. I get it, new version of the matrix, but I dunno at moments it looked low budget, the hard lighting threw me off, the sets looked cramped. The way some shots where cut off were bad, like for instance Trinity's scorpion kick. The "bullet time" looked like a youtube remake or something. Some quotes in the movie though are kind of relating to whats happening now in the world. Especially Merovingian and the Analyst their lines. Overall entertaining movie. Will they make more matrix movies after this???

Awful, awful, awful. Had to stop at the scaffolding fight that looked like something from a stage play. Among the worse examples of nostalgia.
