Veteran STAR WARS Composer John Williams Will Write The Theme For SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY

It was previously reported that John Powell (Rio, How to Train Your Dragon) would be writing the score for Solo: A Star Wars Story, but it's now been revealed that veteran Star Wars composer John Williams will also be on hand to work on the film's main theme.

Williams made the announcement while chatting to Variety about his score for The Last Jedi:

“The present plan is that I’m writing a theme for Han Solo, and John Powell is going to write the score, which he’ll do brilliantly. What I will do is offer this to John, and to [director] Ron Howard, and if all parties are happy with it, then I will be happy. John [Powell] will complete the score. He will write all the rest of the themes and all of the other material, which I’m going to be very anxious to hear.”

Williams previously composed the entire scores for all eight of the main saga installments, winning an Oscar for the original back in 1977. 2016's Rogue One was scored by Michael Giacchino.

Han Solo: A Star Wars Story is set to hit theaters in May of 2018.

@Memorator - Although it kinda reused a lot of older themes and pieces, the new stuff was really, really neat. Too bad the trailer music wasn't in the movie (which is the best piece of star wars music this year in my opinion)

Is anyone actually excited for this? I like that Donald glover is playing Lando, pretty well the only thing that interests me so far. Will se when the trailer hits I guess.

Which of his own compositions is he going to borrow from this time?

I love John Williams, but he has been doing that more often lately.

He basically reused the chase through Coruscant theme from Attack of the Clones in the Quiddich scene flying under the bleachers in Harry Potter.

He reused parts of the military theme from Close Encounters in the battle theme for TFA and The Last Jedi.

But as Mark Twain said, "Self plagiarism is style"...I just miss the Raiders, Superman, Jaws, original Star Wars and Empire Strikes Back John Williams.

@411IDSigo -

He’s done the score for 8 Star Wars films. I’m pretty sure it gets harder to come up with new themes. I can’t blame him for reusing old themes.
