Variety is reporting five-time Academy Award-winning composer John Williams will no longer be scoring Steven Spielberg's Ready Player One. Scoring duties will instead be handed over to two-time Academy Award-nominee Alan Silvestri, best known for his work on The Avengers and Captain America: The First Avenger. He's also set to score Avengers: Infinity War next year and the untitled Avengers 4 in 2019.

Williams, who is currently hard at work scoring Star Wars: The Last Jedi, will reteam with Spielberg on The Papers, which will be their 28th collaboration.

In an official statement, Amblin Productions confirmed the composer change. “Steven and John decided Alan Silvestri was the perfect choice for ‘Ready Player One’ since Steven has worked (as a producer) with Alan on the ‘Back to the Future’ films in the ’80s and Alan has scored other films for Steven’s Amblin and DreamWorks.

On another note, while Justice League and Aquaman may be the big ticket items at Warner Bros.' San Diego Comic-Con presentation, the studio is also planning on unveiling the eagerly awaited first look at Spielberg's next directorial venture, which almost definitely means we're getting the first official teaser trailer. Spielberg is expected to be in attendance, his first SDCC appearance since 2011, along with screenwriters Ernest Cline & Zak Penn and stars Tye Sheridan (X-Men: Dark Phoenix), Olivia Cooke (Me and Earl and the Dying Girl), and T.J. Miller (Deadpool 2).

Check out the first synopsis from WB's press release below:

Star Spangled Man is one of my fav pieces of all time and is one of the reasons The First Avenger is my favorite Captain America movie. Fight Me.

@Spider2YBanana - while silvestri's score for that movie is brilliant, (the captain America march is my favorite price of music in the MCU), "star spangled man" was actually written by Alan menken.

Can't help but feel John Williams is gonna retire with Star Wars IX or Indiana Jones 5. It'll be a bittersweet day for cinema.

Sad to hear that John Williams won't work on the score for the film anymore. However, I am curious to see what Alan comes up with for the score!

God, imagine if Spielberg directed a Marvel movie. Honestly, if not for how great Jon Watts is, i'd say Spielberg would be perfect for Spidey.

Jebs, I'd forgotten about the Speilberg film, its been in post production that long?

Its either going to look amazing or there's been some serious reshooting and changing around.

Dear demon gods of music,

Please let it have a synth score

Please let it have a synth score

Please let it have a synth score

Please let it have a synth score

Or at least the music referenced in the books. I have a feeling though spielberg is going to want to put his ego stamp on it.

Dont [frick] this up old spielberg, yout name still holds some weight.

If he [frick]s this movie up, Ill never see spielberg as the great director he once was.

@Re1Agent - The biggest music question is, did they manage to get Rush to license them the "2112" album for the Crystal Key.

This movie rides or dies on what spielberg managed to license and how many references needed substituted or removed. With almost every major American and Japanese movie studio having a property referenced in the story I would guarantee some changes. The only confirmed license in this movie is The Delorian.

I personally still hope to see The battle over Zork, Ultraman, Leopardon vs Mecha Godzilla, Voltron and Jonny 5.

@TheIronDuck - Ah good call, yea im curious about it to. But I hope to see all that to.

I know there will be some references to most likely spielberg's films or maybe films hes produced, Like I saw some graffiti of gizmo on a set photo.

but come on why not have as much from the book as possible to create the aesthetic? yea I realize alot of it needs to be licensed but it should be worth it to make this the best cyber punk movie to date.

cause thats how I see RP1 its a cyberpunk fantasy. I hope he captures that and doesnt make it generic bs.

@TheIronDuck - I'm sure Rush and their music won't appear in the movie. If it was a more well-known band I'm sure it would, but not Rush.

Is anyone else as happy as I am the Silvestri is returning? Age of Ultron score was... underwhelming. I love Danny Elfman and Brian Tyler, but I don't think their creative styles meshed together.
