PROMETHEUS Running Time Revealed & New Image of Charlize Theron

Director Ridley Scott and the cast of the film took part in a Q&A session for Prometheus, and during the event multiple run-times were revealed for the film.

A member of PrometheusForum.net was going through the French press conference for Ridley Scott's Prometheus, and found a nice little nugget. During the event it was revealed that the run-time will be 1 hour and 59 minutes, and there will also be an extended cut with an additional 17 minutes of footage.

Wow! So, we'll have multiple cuts for the film. I wonder if this means the shorter version is for a PG-13 rating while the extended version is for an R rating? We know Ridley Scott has been very outspoken about trying to get a PG-13 rating for the film, believing that his big budget film will have a harder time being profitable if it is rated R.

its a losing battle you either make the computer systems look older than they did in alien (therefore pretty much abacas's) and people will complain.

or you make it look even more modern and people will complain

id prefer the latter, that way, less people complain

Why is the runtime such a huge problem with everyone? 2 hours is probably plenty. A good story is as long/short as it needs to be. Add too much fluff and it becomes slow and dull and most cut footage is unnecessary anyway.

This movie will blow us all away. Scott knows what he is doing. As long as the story and substance are all there I ok with 2 hours

And i agree if its too long they can easily add too much stuff.
Running time doesnt matter as long as the movie is great. :)

2 hours is good enough for me!

im not trying to fight grif's battles but he has a point, if you make a prequel the world of the film set earlier needs to look like it was set earlier

its like all the ships in the star wars prequels being more modern looking than they did in the films set later on

deux heures c'est à peu près juste à mon avis. il y a trop de films qui sont beaucoup trop longs. j'aimais bien le fait qu'il y avait de l'humour dans "Alien" et "Aliens" et j'attends avec impatience de voir jusqu'à quel degré on verra le côté humouristique de Ridley Scott cette fois. Mais moi j'aurais regardé quand même les permiers films de la saga si j'avais été à la place de Michael Fassbender. ça va être un merveilleux film, plein d'action, de suspense et de tension. j'en ai marre d'attendre :(.

Let's break it down shall we? At under 2 hours the studios can have more showings of the film per day which brings them more money. 6 months after releasing the film they will put it on Blu-ray with some deleted scenes and other extras and say that it has over 4 hours of content which brings them more money.

6 months after that they will re-release the film as a directors' cut and add in all those deleted scenes plus a couple more and advertise on the box OVER 20 minutes of additional scenes, which brings in more money.

6 months after that they will sell a boxed set with both releases, a comic book, and a preview of the trailer for the sequel, which brings them more money. Are you getting the pattern here?

Why does every movie need to be a 3 hour epic? 2 hours is fine, if the story called for longer I'm sure it would be longer.

^Two hours is more than fine IMO. If a film can tell a good story in 1hr 30 then so much the better.
