UPDATE #2: Neill Blomkamp Was Working On An ALIEN Movie? Posts 'Ripley' Concept Art

Neill Blomkamp, the director of District 9, Elysium and the upcoming Chappie, has posted concept art from an unknown Alien project that he was working on that includes images of Sigourney Weaver's 'Ripley.

Director Neill Blomkamp is best known for directing District 9 and Elysium. His upcoming film is Chappie, which looks like a remake of the 1986 classic, Short Circuit. After that, what comes next? Well, it might have been a film set in the Ridley Scott/James Cameron Alien/Aliens universe. A few hours ago, Blomkamp posted messages along with five pieces of concept art from an Alien/Aliens project that would've included Signourney Weaver's 'Ripley.' Blomkamp wrote, "Was working on this. Don't think I am anymore. Love it though." That message was attached to an image of a Xenomorph/Alien (last image). Below, you can view all of the concept art he posted and underneath each of those is the messages he posted with them.

"Oh shit"

"#weyland corp"

"#ripley #hicks"

"Woulda rocked. Was a mental stroll into the world Ridley Scott created."

"Wtf?"

"Was working on this. Don't think I am anymore. Love it though. #alien #xenomorph"

UPDATE #2! MORE IMAGES!

UPDATE! Blomkamp has tweeted (an unverified account) a possible clarification of the images. It seems as though Blomkamp was working on a possible Alien film on his own. Just for kicks?

I'm intrigued by the concept art featuring Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) with an older and scarred Corporal Dwayne Hicks (Michael Biehn). Hicks was a main character in James Cameron's Aliens (1986), which was the sequel to Ridley Scott's 1979 film Alien. At the end of the film, Hicks along with Ripley, Newt and a badly-damaged Bishop sset their spaceship to return to Earth and enter hypersleep for the long journey. When 1992's Alien 3 (directed by David Fincher) began, most were disappointed that Hicks and Newt were killed off-screen.

The real shame is that Biehn wanted to reprise his role, but the producers decided not to include him. I could understand killing off Newt since the actress (Carrie Henn) had aged considerably from the time Aliens had wrapped, but offing Hicks left a bad taste in my mouth.

Maybe Blomkamp pitched a film idea that would've erased the wrongs Alien 3 committed, giving us the Aliens sequel we really wanted.

CHAPPiE - Every child comes into the world full of promise, and none more so than Chappie: he is gifted, special, a prodigy. Like any child, Chappie will come under the influence of his surroundings – some good, some bad – and he will rely on his heart and soul to find his way in the world and become his own man. But there's one thing that makes Chappie different from anyone else: he is a robot. The first robot with the ability to think and feel for himself. His life, his story, will change the way the world looks at robots and humans forever.

Release Date: March 6, 2015

Cast: Sharlto Copley, Dev Patel, Sigourney Weaver and Hugh Jackman
Directed by: Neill Blomkamp * Written by: Neill Blomkamp & Terri Tatchell

Yeah Fincher and Fox screwed over the franchise with their decisions.
I remember Cameron saying he'd do Aliens 4 if Scott would do Aliens 3 but we all know how that turned out... : (
Very interesting art.

An Alien film featuring Ripley and Hicks that retcons the events of Alien 3 & 4, from the director of District 9?! This is literally the best decision the studio could have made with this franchise. Screw Prometheus 2, green light this instead!

Well, I'll just add this to the list of things that should have happened.

NECA needs to make a figure of Ripley in that Xenomorph/space jockey suit.

The teaser for Aliens 3 originally said it was going to take place on earth.

It didn't, it was that stupid prison facility.

Shows how much they had on the ball in terms of knowing what they were gonna make.

Maybe this could end up like the Deadpool test footage, where if the studio sees enough positive response they'll green light the film.

Both franchises are owned by Fox, after all.

Great looking concept art. I'd like to see what he could have done in the Alien universe.

before Prometheus was made, the original idea was to reboot the alien franchise.... this is probably some sort of retcon/capcon/megatron thing they was workin on...

Any future Alien movies should take place after ALIENS and ignore the last two.

Would've loved to see a Neill Blomkamp Alien movie. Couldn't these pics be considered as MASSIVE SPOILERS for "Prometheus II: The Search For Plot"?

Ehhhhh - this sounds like a reboot/remake of Alien Resurrection.
Turning Ripley into a xenomorph of some kind (either by design or cloning), having Ripley try to destroy Weyland-Yutani, having *the corporation* studying the Engineer ship....

Could've been awful.

As an art piece, making Ripley into a xenomorph is fantastic, but yeah, that's that.
TheSuperguy
TheSuperguy - 1/1/2015, 9:12 PM
I'm sure there's some way they could do a Days of Future Past/Star Trek 2009/Terminator: Genisys semi-reboot of this series. Wipe the slate clean and get rid of Alien 3 and Resurrection.

Are the AVP films canon or not? I can't remember, but I don't think they are anymore.

Tevii - 1/1/2015, 9:12 PM
drunkennukem - um... no way. Alien Resurrection (joss whedon) did what it could fix everything part 3 broke. Part 3 made all the movies irrelevant by killing everyone that survived the previous movies INCLUDING Ripley.... Joss Whedon has his hands tied when he wrote Resurrection, but i think it came out great given the limitations he had
