Avatar, an Actual Comic-Book Movie?

Could James Cameron's latest blockbuster eventually be the latest big graphic novel?

"Avatar" was not originally a graphic novel, nor was it a comic book series with lore or a history. So some controversy surfaced here on CBM. Well, hold on to your hats nerds, here it is straight from the horse's mouth. James Cameron was questioned about the possibility of a possible book and comic book, and he mentioned something called a "Pandorapedia".

When questioned about comic-books, Cameron said:
(the following is from an interview from another website)

James Cameron: Yeah, we’ll do as much as possible to do. I wanted to get the bible worked out so that these things didn’t generate conflicting ideas or conflicting plotlines with things I would want to do in the sequels, or with each other. That was the purpose of generating Pandorapedia, working out the backstory and the future history.

JH: And you don’t have any of those deals worked out with comic creators or…

JC: Not right now, that’s really going to be a second wave, including a novel which I hope to have time to write myself.

So there you have it. Apparently, a version of Pandorapedia is available online at www.pandorapedia.com. Seems a little weak though; perhaps a big book is or will be available.

Will we see a graphic novel? It is yet to be seen.

When they adapt this to a book and comic, people will see
what a hackneyed story this is and realize that they
were tricked with the 3D. If a movie idea is good it
doesn't need 3D. I hate 3D. Its a con artist's trick
to keep people from seeing the week derivative story.

But Cameron is the master of smoke and mirrors, taking
your mind off the story with FX. I mean look at Titanic!
That is some of the worst writing I've ever seen but it
made a gajillion dollars. They could have thrown
everything else out but the boat wreck and still people
woulda watched the movie! It would have made the Titanic
into a normal size movie too. lol

Just watch Avatar without 3D when it comes out on DVD and
see how exciting the story is then! You'll see what I'm
talking about! It won't hold up to scrutiny!

this irritates me to no end. i've seen it on a million other articles. people complain about something not being a CBM, so the author goes and finds some old pic of a comic that was made of something that already exists (robin hood comes to mind). a CBM is a movie based off a comic, NOT a comic based off a movie. there is a difference.

oh i know man, i agree with you completely. but there are a lot of people that complain about certain articles not being comic related, and the popular defense to that, is people going and finding comics that were made of said franchises. but that isn't a good defense. because my point is, a CBM is something based off a comic.

so when someone posts Robin Hood news, and then posts a pic of some obscure old robin hood comic that no one has ever heard of, that doesn't make it a CBM. the legend of Robin Hood has been around since before comics even existed, so there is NO WAY it can be a CBM, unless of course the movie is an adaptation of said comic.

just me griping though, lol. i personally like that non-cbm news gets posted on the site :)
