Chris Hemsworth has gone from a relative unknown actor when he starred in 2011's Thor to now landing male leads in some high profile films, with the last one being Ron Howard's racing film, Rush. Now, according to Deadline Hemsworth has landed the male lead in Steven Spielberg's next major tentpole, the technological thriller, Robopocalypse. The film is set to open in theaters April 25, 2014.

Unofficial Synopsis - In the future, robots have been created to serve Mankind. Archos, the 14° version of an advanced Artificial Intelligence developed by the U.S. government, continuously deleted for displaying hostility towards humans, escapes from being destroyed and soon becomes a virus, downloading itself into every piece of A.I.-controlled technology in the planet, leading to a worldwide robot uprising where the humans caught in the chaos struggle to survive.

A while ago I said "Hemsworth is an actor who's gonna have an awesome career after Thor".

Called it.

In Robopocalypse the main character is a younger brother to a much tougher alpha type brother. That doesn't sound like Hemsworth.

and really, comparing him to lucas??? lucas made one good movie... ever... and to be honest, that one wasn't good because of his direction, but because of his story. spielberg has has a couple of missteps, yeah, but nothing has been terrible and a few have been astounding. even indy 4 would have been ok if we'd never seen the first 3.

Folks this story does NOT feel like Terminator. For one thing, the cause of the robot uprising is MUCH more interesting, Not at all like Skynet.

Speilberg's Lincoln will be the only thing standing between Nolan and an Oscar.
Look for Daniel Day Lewis to get the lead actor Oscar.

@MarkV Maybe you don't know what an actor is. No that doesn't sound like Hemsworth at all, maybe that's because he's not playing Chris Hemsworth. He's an actor, he's suppose to act.

Good for you, dude. The notion that a guy could get his big break playing Marvel's Thor, a character with an essentially ridiculous premise, is actually kind of far-fetched, but this guy pulled it off on account of his charisma and acting chops. Not any easy thing to do, actually.

Well done Chris! Stay humble!

@Intruder- Well if the Buffalo news likes it...consider me a follower. lol (unless you are from Buffalo)

I am seeing a trend here, Hemsworth's stock keeps rising. And right now he appears to be the next great action hero, not that the part in Expendables 2 makes that obvious or anything.
