In and interview with Bloody-Disgusting a couple days ago, director Matt Reeves talks a little bit about the much anticipated sequel 'Cloverfield 2'.
He says he hasn't even met with J.J Abrams and Drew Goddard to discuss anything about the film, and even when they do, if they cant all agree on a story worth telling, that the film just wont happen.

"Unfortunately, I don't have any [news]," said Reeves. "We're just...you know, somebody was saying to me that I had said something about, 'well, we're gonna try and get the band back together.' And the band is still not back together, we're just still talking about getting back together. But we haven't really had a chance to talk about it. I mean, J.J. is eding 'Super 8' right now, he's got a very, very intense schedule right now that he's working on. And Drew [Goddard] is writing Steven Spielberg's next movie, I think, after the Abraham Lincoln film. He's doing 'Robopocalypse'. So everybody's very, very busy. But I'm sure we'll get together one of these days and sort of bounce it around until we come up with something that we get excited about. And if we don't, then we won't make it."

It was one of the best monster films ever. And with how they did it, I don't think there should be a sequel. It's best on its own. If you're looking for a movie that's tense and full of city-wide destruction involving a giant monster, this movie is right for you.

Cloverfield was a great movie, especially if you followed all the viral sites leading up to it. The viral stuff gave a LOT of explanation to things that the movie doesn't.

I wanted a sequel too, so this is disappointing to me.

14!

The angle they took killed any good monster footage. Too bad, the sequel could be showing the same story from the presses view or like a regular movie showing the actual events.
Another thing, after all that veral crap they owe us the whole story.

i liked the original... but a sequel is only a good idea if the army gets involved....

I didnt enjoy the first film, Michael J Fox's directorial debut was a flop (not referring to his filming methods either).

Cloverfield was terrible. If I have a video camera and a huge monster is attacking the city I live in, I promise you that I will not be filling my friends stumbling over each other. My camera would be on the friggin monster!

I think that Cloverfield was a great stand-alone movie. It doesn't really need a movie. If you haven't seen it go check it out. Ignore all the nay-sayers with poor taste exclaiming that it was crap.

i thought they were going to make the second movie without the "hand-shake" of the camcorder. it was suppose to be a re-make of the movie from the armedforces perspective!

I was VERY surprised by Cloverfield, I caught a few minutes of it on TV and it was way better than I expected, so I bought it the next day. I skipped it because I thought it looked like a big budget Blair Witch, but it really isn't, the acting is superb and the cinematography is very Hitchcock-ian an well done. Definitely a must see.

A sequel would only do well if it were all knowing like a regular movie, or if it were done from the POV of someone who actually finds all the answers(proabably .mil). The original idea of the sequel being from the POV of the other civilian filming on the bridge is a terrible idea that will only take the franchise down the same never ending road as LOST, which will not work for a movie series.

I loved this movie.I also liked how they didn't give away a lot in the trailers.I waited until it came out on DVD & bought it,and was surprised how good it was.I actually got it back out & watched it again a couple of months ago.It is a good stand alone movie, but it also would be nice to see the origin of the monster in a prequel, and to see what would happen in a sequel set after Cloverfield itself.I mainly just like how it just comes from out of nowhere and nobody knows what the hell is going on.It's a damn good movie despite what some people say. It's worth a look to judge for yourself.

@ Havok yes it's a good movie...get past the first 15 mins and enjoy the ride...and what about the thing that fell into the ocean in the very last scene? Way to leave us hangin! I need some frickin closure! They talked about the monster being a 'baby' in the special features...who's the daddy!? Let's see that big mother f*cker on the screen..

@KaptainKool- it is sort of a semantics thing, I think that many of us who want another movie want/expect it to chronicle the same events of the first movie, just in a way that explains things that could not be explained with the POV of the first movie.

Cloverfield was a great and unique movie. It's not their fault that the people that didn't like it have queasy stomachs.
