Ryan Reynolds, best known around these parts for bringing the Merc with a Mouth to life on the big screen in 20th Century Fox's Deadpool franchise, is attached to star in a new sci-fi action comedy from the studio called Free Guy.
According to Deadline, Reynolds will be teaming up with Stranger Things executive producer Shawn Levy, who will helm the film. Levy directorial work includes Night at the Museum, The Internship, and episodes of Netflix's hit sci-fi show Stranger Things.
Written by Matt Lieberman, Free Guy is in the vein of The Truman Show, which starred Jim Carrey. It's about a bank teller who realizes he's a background character in an open world, action-adventure video game and attempts to prevent the developers of the game from shutting down his world.
Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and Adam Kolbrenner are producing the film alongside Reynolds via his Maximum Effort label and Levy via 21 Laps. No release date was announced.
On a related note, Fox also set a release date for an Untitled Deadpool Movie for December 21st, although some speculate it will be a PG-13 re-release of Deadpool 2 with additional content.
