In the site's article reporting the news that David Fincher (The Social Network) is in talks to direct the book adaptation Gone Girl for Fox, Variety has an update on the helmer's planned 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea remake over at Disney. Back in October, it was revealed that Disney had placed a three month hold on Fincher as the studio decided whether or not to move forward with the film. In the meantime, Fincher was courting frequent collaborator Brad Pitt to star in the Jules Verne adaptation as Ned Landis. However, despite the actor saying that he'd love to re-unite with his Fight Club director on the project, Variety says that the casting "never came through", and the studio is still deciding what to do with the film. While it's possible for Fincher to move to 20,000 Leagues as his next project instead of Gone Girl, the director has begun looking for other projects in case that film fell through. Fincher is also rumored to be a contender to helm one of Disney's new Star Wars films. Would you like to see 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea on the big screen in the near future?
