We found out that Anya Taylor-Joy had a mysterious role in Dune: Part Two last week during the movie's premiere, but the Furiosa star didn't reveal who she was playing.

Part Two is now playing in some locations ahead of its global release tomorrow, and we're breaking down some of the biggest moments and reveals from Denis Villeneuve's critically-acclaimed sci-fi sequel.

If you've read the book, this obviously won't apply to you, but everyone else should be aware of major spoilers from this point on!

In Part One, we learn that Paul Atreides' mother, the Bene Gesserit Lady Jessica, is pregnant with the late Duke Leto's child. When the Fremen take in the survivors of the Harkonnen massacre in the sequel, Jessica agrees to become the tribe's new Reverend Mother (she isn't really given a choice) and is persuaded to drink the Water of Life (liquid that's been extracted from a juvenile sandworm).

This gives Jessica even more foresight and knowledge of previous generations of Reverend Mothers, while also awakening similar abilities in her unborn daughter, who begins to communicate with and seemingly influence her mother's actions.

When Paul ingests the same liquid later on in the movie, he sees a vision of his now grown sister Alia (Taylor-Joy) standing by an ocean on Arrakis. She tells her brother that she loves him and is waiting for him.

We don't actually see Jessica giving birth, which marks a significant change from the book, where a preternaturally intelligent Alia is an important character and plays a major role in the final battle when she kills The Baron. Of course, if Denis Villeneuve does get the chance to helm an adaptation of Dune: Messiah, Taylor-Joy is sure to reprise the role.

Did you guess Taylor-Joy's role? Drop us a comment down below, and let us know if you're planning to see Dune: Part Two this weekend.

"Those hoping for blockbuster escapism might find themselves shook by this faithful, at times borderline depressing adaptation," we said in our review. "But Dune Part Two is Sci-fi spectacle at its finest and most audacious, as Villeneuve builds-upon and possibly surpasses (opinions will vary) his previous film with aplomb."

The saga continues as award-winning filmmaker Denis Villeneuve embarks on Dune: Part Two, the next chapter of Frank Herbert’s celebrated novel Dune, with an expanded all-star international ensemble cast. The film, from Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures, is the highly anticipated follow-up to 2021’s six-time Academy Award-winning Dune.

The big-screen epic continues the adaptation of Frank Herbert’s acclaimed bestseller Dune with returning and new stars, including Oscar nominee Timothée Chalamet (Wonka, Call Me by Your Name), Zendaya (Spider-Man: No Way Home, Malcolm & Marie, Euphoria), Rebecca Ferguson (Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning), Oscar nominee Josh Brolin (Avengers: Endgame, Milk), Oscar nominee Austin Butler (Elvis, Once Upon A Time…In Hollywood), Oscar nominee Florence Pugh (Black Widow, Little Women), Dave Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy, Thor: Love and Thunder), Oscar winner Christopher Walken (The Deer Hunter,), Stephen McKinley Henderson (Fences), Léa Seydoux (James Bond, Crimes of the Future), with Stellan Skarsgård (Avengers: Age of Ultron), Oscar nominee Charlotte Rampling (45 Years, Assassin’s Creed), and Oscar winner Javier Bardem (No Country for Old Men, Being the Ricardos).

Dune: Part Two will explore the mythic journey of Paul Atreides as he unites with Chani and the Fremen while on a warpath of revenge against the conspirators who destroyed his family. Facing a choice between the love of his life and the fate of the known universe, he endeavors to prevent a terrible future only he can foresee.

Is it okay to talk spoilers yet? Will there be an official article for that, or will it just be kinda assumed with every spoiler article?

@DarkModeDan - Depends on the spoiler and the film, one that stays fairly close to the original source and the spoiler just stating who someone was cast as is relatively fair game if limited plot details given. I mean Alia is a MAJOR character from the books and a given she would appear no matter how close to the book the film was or not as is visions of the future.

That said this site has oft been one of the worst to be way too fast with too much spoilery details given in far less forgiveable cases, but those tend to be written by Josh not Mark.

@DarkModeDan - yeah spoilers are fair game. I'll be posting another one about the ending etc later on.

@MarkCassidy - Think if this is as close to the book as it is supposed to be feel as long as in a spoiler thread anything spoiler like should be fair game in this instance in discussions and were very clear with the tag this article contains spoilers :D

Her being with the cast at the premiere red carpet was a bit of a giveaway

@Prork - As is her already listed as playing Alia on IMDB, lol

TBF wouldn't have been the first time that an actor who isn't in a film showed up on the red carpet for it's premiere so on it's own didn't confirm anything even if indicative she likely was in it.

I thought how they handled Alia was great. I still think they could have had a child in the role. Just have the child sign instead of having a verbal conversation. But it was fine! The two things that most unsettled me the most about the film was Jessica's turn toward a darker character and the scene where Feyd watches the Barron get killed by Paul and he seems to enjoy it.

I just saw Dune: Part Two it really wasn't my cup of tea more talking then the first Dune movie. No need to see this movie on a I-MAX Screen. I watched Dune a on regular size movie screen just perfect.

@AllsGood - of course it wasn't.

It didn't have a marvel studios banner 🤣

@AllsGood - ...really don't see your point. I never claimed wakanda forever did poorly.

It doesn't negate the point that 170 mil opening is pretty good.

Ffs, it's almost as much as the entire box office for the marvels 🤣
AllsGood
AllsGood - 3/2/2024, 8:09 AM
@Origame - So Dune Part Two you have to compare The Marvel's Box Office Numbers to be a success?

Origame
Origame - 3/2/2024, 8:54 AM
@AllsGood - ...wow are you desperate.

@Origame - Comparing Done Part Two to The Mavel's for Box Office Success you're the one that's Desperate.
Origame
Origame - 3/2/2024, 9:44 AM
@AllsGood - really don't know why not. They're both close in terms of release dates. And they're comparable in terms of budget.

Not only that but you chose to compare it to the box office of wakanda forever, a movie that both took advantage of a real world death to drive ticket sales and still only made $10 mil more on the opening weekend despite costing $60 mil more to make.
AllsGood
AllsGood - 3/2/2024, 9:54 AM
@Origame - Dune 2's Massive Budget Sets Historic Milestone for Director NOT including Advertising Cost.

Dune: Part Two reportedly has a budget of $190 Million, making it the most expensive movie ever by director Denis Villeneuve.

2021's Dune cost $165 million to make and ultimately earned $402 million globally at the end of its box office run.
AllsGood
AllsGood - 3/2/2024, 9:58 AM
@Origame - WHY do you have to keep Comparing Marvel Studios The Marvels Biggest Box Office Flop to Dune: Part Two? Not good sign for Dune Flop Two.
Origame
Origame - 3/2/2024, 10:09 AM
@AllsGood - what does the budget being specifically the most expensive of his career have to do with its performance compared to films like wakanda forever? Wakanda forever cost $250 mil, $60 mil more than dune part 2. Yet it's opening weekend was only $10 mil more. That means, either we have to consider wakanda forever a failure or dune part 2 is not only successful but more successful than wakanda forever.

Also, dune part 1 was released when the pandemic was still very much a problem for films.

Also, you still haven't explained why comparing the box office to the marvels is unfair. But even then, I also compared it to wakanda forever, a film you also compared it too. And I've proven it's objectively more successful than that movie. Are you gonna argue wakanda forever is a flop?
AllsGood
AllsGood - 3/2/2024, 10:16 AM
@Origame - DUNE: PART TWO

Origame
Origame - 3/2/2024, 10:29 AM
@AllsGood - so you admit wakanda forever is also a bomb?

AllsGood
AllsGood - 3/2/2024, 10:45 AM
@Origame - Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022) was Huge Box Office Hit compared to Dune 2. Dune Part Two will NEVER get close these Box Office Numbers. Wakanda Forever Domestic Opening $181,339,761 Opening already beat Dune Part Two Worldwide Opening.

DOMESTIC = $453,829,060

INTERNATIONAL = $405,379,776

WORLDWIDE = $859,208,836

Origame
Origame - 3/2/2024, 11:12 AM
@AllsGood - how can you argue it won't come close when it's already close when comparing the opening weekend?

And wakanda forever even had a huge drop second weekend.
AllsGood
AllsGood - 3/2/2024, 11:18 AM
@Origame - Wakanda Forever (2022) DOMESTIC ONLY = $181,339,761

Dune Part Two WORLDWIDE OPENING WEEKEND = $150 Million to $175

Do you really don't know the difference between Domestic and Worldwide?
AllsGood
AllsGood - 3/2/2024, 11:21 AM
@Origame - Dune Part Two DOMESTIC is heading for a 75 to 80 Million Opening Weekend. Compared to Wakanda Forever Domestic Opening $181,339,761
Origame
Origame - 3/2/2024, 11:34 AM
@AllsGood - do you not understand the world wide opening was 210? It barely made a difference calculating vs the world, hence why you kept ignoring it.

But even then those are still comparable since wakanda forever cost $60 mil more, which means it needed to make $150 mil more to be an equivalent success. And I don't know if you understand math, but 210 isn't 150 more than 150 or 175.
AllsGood
AllsGood - 3/2/2024, 11:37 AM
@Origame -
Origame
Origame - 3/2/2024, 11:48 AM
@AllsGood - yes, it is hilarious you don't know the 2.5x rule of thumb that takes into account marketing and theater pay.

Wakanda forever cost 250 mil. That means it's break even point was 625. The end result is the profit made by wakanda forever is 225.

Dune part 2 cost 190 mil. The break even point for that movie is 475. Meaning an equivalent profit world mean dune 2 only has to gross 700 mil.

Are you really telling me dune part 2 won't make 700 mil?

My biggest issue with both Dune movies is the characters are so dry and boring. I never really cared or felt anything about them. Dune is nothing the Star War movies and its characters.

I'm not surprised. Why would I be? She's an actress who is in demand and this is a motion picture.

What am I missing?
