There's still a lot we don't know about Tom Cruise's mysterious outer space project, but it's now been revealed that Doug Liman will be helming the action once the crew blasts off.
The filmmaker, who has previously worked with Cruise on Edge of Tomorrow and American Made, has boarded the still untitled movie, which will be partially shot in space. NASA confirmed their plan to work with Cruise and Elon Musk’s SpaceX last week when the news first broke, but specific plot details are still under wraps.
Liman and Cruise had been developing another project known as Luna Park for Paramount Pictures, but despite the title and premise (it's said to revolve around a group of renegade employees who venture to the moon to steal an energy source) the studio is adamant that this is a completely separate film.
Apparently, Cruise and Liman have been planning this for quite a while, and the latter has already completed the first draft of the screenplay.
There's no time-frame for when this project could begin shooting. Liman is currently in post-production in the Lionsgate/BRON film Chaos Walking with Daisy Ridley and Tom Holland, but Deadline reckons he is planning to move on to "Space Movie" as soon as possible.
