EDGE OF TOMORROW (Finally) Crosses $100M At The Domestic Box Office; $364M Total

Talk about a slow play. It may have taken all summer, but Edge Of Tomorrow has finally crossed the $100M domestic mark, bringing its worldwide total to $364M. Come check it out!

Doug Liman's Edge of Tomorrow was probably one of the biggest surprises of the summer. The critically acclaimed film was based on the Japanese novel All You Need Is Kill and starred superstar Tom Cruise as Lt. Col. William Cage & the very talented Emily Blunt as the Full Metal Bitch, Rita Vrataski.

It may have taken a while, but this past Labor Day weekend has helped the film cross the $100M domestic mark, making this Tom Cruise's first non-Mission: Impossible film to cross $100M domestic in nine years, since War of the Worlds (not counting Tropic Thunder). The film stumbled at its opening, grossing $28.7M, and was quickly written off by many as a box office bomb. However, thanks to Cruise's international appeal and good word of mouth, it managed to show its worth throughout the summer and became a sleeper hit, grossing over $364M worldwide, making it the 12th highest grossing film of the year.

This is Cruise's third straight film after Oblivion & Jack Reacher to see an increase in their domestic totals. Could this be a sign of things to come? With Mission: Impossible 5 coming up, Cruise's stock is probably at its highest since the early 2000's. Is there a particular CBM role you'd like to see him in? Sound off with your thoughts below!

Tom Cruise is currently hard at work on Mission: Impossible 5, which is expected to hit theaters Christmas Day 2015. Emily Blunt can be seen again this Christmas in Disney's Into the Woods.

Oscar nominee Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt star in Warner Bros. Pictures' and Village Roadshow Pictures' sci-fi thriller "Edge of Tomorrow," under the direction of Doug Liman. The epic action of "Edge of Tomorrow" unfolds in a near future in which an alien race has hit the Earth in an unrelenting assault, unbeatable by any military unit in the world.

Major William Cage (Cruise) is an officer who has never seen a day of combat when he is unceremoniously dropped into what amounts to a suicide mission. Killed within minutes, Cage now finds himself inexplicably thrown into a time loop—forcing him to live out the same brutal combat over and over, fighting and dying again…and again. But with each battle, Cage becomes able to engage the adversaries with increasing skill, alongside Special Forces warrior Rita Vrataski (Blunt). And, as Cage and Rita take the fight to the aliens, each repeated encounter gets them one step closer to defeating the enemy.

Edge of Tomorrow features:

I personally would prefer to see Emily Blunt in a comic book movie over Tom. Emily would be a great Carol Ferris. Plus seeing her kick butt as Star Sapphire would be a plus too. That being said Tom Cruise could be cool in a CBM I could see him being Jay Garrick. He might be a little young for the character of Jay but he still could work. He also could an interesting version of Ted Kord the Blue Beetle. He was great in Edge of Tomorrow so I guess he could be a great Adam Strange too.

This is one of those movies I would watch again and again and again. Why? It's a damn good masterpiece. One of the best CBM of 2014!
I'm so relieved it reached this far.

Tom Cruise was once in talks to play Iron Man before. Now? I think he'd fit in with Moon Knight

Good but it carried a 170mill price tag... Fortunately it made some good numbers outside USA. I think Warner failed marketing this one, starting with the telenovela title, now they even changed the title of the movie for the bluray release!

Good to see it reach that at least. This deserved more, though. I would say the movie being that good was a pleasant surprise, but I was looking forward to it since it was announced.

I wonder if this had made more or less with a different lead?
