Jeff Goldblum Details The Return Of Dr. Ian Malcolm In JURASSIC WORLD: FALLEN KINGDOM

After sitting out the last two films, Jeff Goldblum is all-set to make a return as Dr. Ian Malcolm in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, but it sounds like his role may be a little limited. Come take a look!

Twenty years after The Lost World: Jurassic Park, life, uh, found a way and in a little over a month, Jeff Goldblum returns to the big screen, reprising arguably his most iconic role to date as Dr. Ian Malcolm in the highly-anticipated Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. However, while his return is undoubtedly very exciting news for the franchise, it sounds like his appearance may be limited to that one compelling courtroom scene we've been teased with in the trailers.

In an extended interview with Entertainment Weekly, Goldblum shared his very positive thoughts on the original Jurassic World and detailed how he got reinvolved with the blockbuster franchise, also inadvertently revealing that he may only appear for that one key scene. "Yeah. Deeelightful! Oh, come on. Fantastic! I love Chris [Pratt] and Bryce [Dallas Howard]. Colin Trevorrow is an important artist and grand thinker and great person. He just directed me in that Jeep commercial during the Super Bowl. Prior to my appearance in London to shoot, I called him on the phone and we talked about my little scene. Writerly master that he is, I enjoyed talking to him about how we could make it great.

Well, that's certainly disappointing to hear, but considering that the movie is expected to split its time between Isla Nublar and the Lockwood estate, it probably would've been a tall order to find a way to logically incorporate an older Malcolm into the deadly dinosaur action. However, while his scene may be brief, it sounds like it may be one of the film's most integral. "They bring me in front of Congress. They want to know if I have an opinion of the volcano and if we should let the dinosaurs go. I’m like Owen (Pratt) and Claire (Howard) and a deep lover of all living things but you’ve heard me on the subject of the misguided reanimation. As long as a volcano, my best advice as difficult as it is, is that we should let evolution course correct. We have the power to destroy our selves and we need to wise up."

Speaking on returning to the iconic role of Ian Malcolm, Goldblum expressed his immense enthusiasm at getting an opportunity to revisit the fan-favorite character after so many years and he also seemed to be quite delighted with how much fans worldwide have taken to the character. "Delightful. I have such a fond memory of working with Steven Spielberg and the casts of the two movies. People seem to get a kick out of my character here and there and I didn’t want to let anyone down. I was thrilled getting another chance at it. My best advice is to keep everyone away and let the volcano do its stuff. But as we know there are other agendas afoot. These people who want to misuse our accomplishments for profit or for cheap entertainment or for militaristic power? Shame on them. We must resist."

As for the franchise's promising future, which includes the recently announced Jurassic World 3, Goldblum seems very down for another encore. "Yesssssss. Yessssss. I hope it would be something where I could contribute something worthwhile. But I can’t get enough of this character!"

There's plenty more from Goldblum, so be sure to head on over to Entertainment Weekly to read his full interview.

It’s been four years since theme park and luxury resort Jurassic World was destroyed by dinosaurs out of containment. Isla Nublar now sits abandoned by humans while the surviving dinosaurs fend for themselves in the jungles.

When the island’s dormant volcano begins roaring to life, Owen (Chris Pratt) and Claire (Bryce Dallas Howard) mount a campaign to rescue the remaining dinosaurs from this extinction-level event. Owen is driven to find Blue, his lead raptor who’s still missing in the wild, and Claire has grown a respect for these creatures she now makes her mission. Arriving on the unstable island as lava begins raining down, their expedition uncovers a conspiracy that could return our entire planet to a perilous order not seen since prehistoric times.

With all of the wonder, adventure and thrills synonymous with one of the most popular and successful series in cinema history, this all-new motion-picture event sees the return of favorite characters and dinosaurs—along with new breeds more awe-inspiring and terrifying than ever before.
