The original Jurassic Park trilogy and Jurassic World are all getting the 4K Ultra HD treatment ahead of this summer's highly-anticipated blockbuster Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.

The four films will come packaged in a limited edition box set that features arguably some seriously amazing cover art as it recreates one of the original film's most iconic moments as we see the Tyrannosaurus majestically roar before the credits begin to roll.

In addition to the 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray disc, each film will come with a Blu-ray and Digital HD copy, which will include a ton of spectacular special features. While unconfirmed, there is also expected to be an open sleeve for Fallen Kingdom whenever it makes its way onto home video this fall.

It’s been four years since theme park and luxury resort Jurassic World was destroyed by dinosaurs out of containment. Isla Nublar now sits abandoned by humans while the surviving dinosaurs fend for themselves in the jungles.

When the island’s dormant volcano begins roaring to life, Owen (Chris Pratt) and Claire (Bryce Dallas Howard) mount a campaign to rescue the remaining dinosaurs from this extinction-level event. Owen is driven to find Blue, his lead raptor who’s still missing in the wild, and Claire has grown a respect for these creatures she now makes her mission. Arriving on the unstable island as lava begins raining down, their expedition uncovers a conspiracy that could return our entire planet to a perilous order not seen since prehistoric times.

If only JP2 and JP3 weren't so terrible. This would have been a day 1. I only own Jurassic Park & Jurassic World on digital.

@SonOfAGif - Yeah, the 2nd and 3rd movies are pretty bad, though for me the 2nd is so much worse than the 3rd.

@SonOfAGif - See as a kid I actually never saw 1 Ihad 2 on VHS and loved it.

@SonOfAGif - It would be cool if these were individual releases instead of a package deal. I'd only want the first movie.
SonOfAGif
SonOfAGif - 3/4/2018, 7:51 PM
@bcom - Yeah. But it wouldn't be true 4K since the movie was filmed back in standard back in the 90s.

@SonOfAGif - It'd be interesting to see the process they go through of boosting the resolution of old films to 4K. How do you add more pixels to old films to make them sharper?

@SonOfAGif - I loved 1, 2 and World. So this isn't a bad purchase for me.

@SonOfAGif - umm. It was shot on 32mm film which is higher quality than 4k. More or less comparable to 6k if I had to guess.

@bcom - you take the original film scan which is higher res than 4k. 32mm film stock is extremely high resolution. Film print doesn't go by pixels but if it did, it's be closer to 6k
Killuminatic
Killuminatic - 3/4/2018, 11:40 PM
@tyehyll - For film stock it's actually 35mm, isn't it? Other than that, you're correct on everything. It's nice to see someone else who knows their stuff. Cheers for letting them know.

@tyehyll - Thanks for the info. I just stupidly assumed that old film stock was lower resolution, but it makes sense that the original film scan would be super high quality.

@SonOfAGif @Killuminatic @tyehyll @boom - They can make digital scans of the 35mm print in really high resolutions but keep in mind the whole finished movie was probably only rendered out at 1080p/2K at the time because of the VFX shots. I'm assuming they went back into the VFX project files and rendered those shots out again in UHD/4K.

Problem now is that the low resolution textures etc that are physically on the actual dinos might be more apparent. This is some really early CGI, I think it's probably best viewed at max 1080p so that at least some of the imperfections are less apparent.

Not sure how well the effects will look in UHD. Like in 1994 they barely even rendered the movie out in 1080p. I'm assuming they went back and rendered the VFX shots again? They're not going to hold up as well in 4K.

Cool image, but weird that they chose such a climactic shot. Not quite on the WTF level of the PLANET OF THE APES DVD showing the Statue of Liberty on the cover, but you know what I mean.
