JURASSIC WORLD: FALLEN KINGDOM Exceeding Expectations; Roaring Toward $145.6 Million Debut

Just like its predecessor, Universal's Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is also exceeding expectations at the domestic box office and is now projected to score an outstanding $145.6 million opening weekend.

Thanks to a ginormous $58.7 million Friday and a spectacular A- CinemaScore, Universal's Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is now on track for a monstrous $145.6 million+ opening weekend, which is a projection that could get even higher after Saturday's numbers come in.

Early tracking estimated an opening in the $130 million to $140 million range, so a $144 million plus domestic launch is certainly welcome news for the latest entry in the Jurassic Park franchise. The J.A. Bayona-directed film is already a bona fide global blockbuster, having collected over $466 million from 51 international markets, including a whopping $178 million from China. Its current worldwide haul stands at approximately $524.7 million and it should top $600 million by Monday morning.

If the numbers hold, Fallen Kingdom will secure the fourth-largest opening weekend of the year and the largest opening weekend for a non-Disney film in 2018. The film is also already the seventh-highest grossing film of the year worldwide and is on course to becoming the fourth-highest by the end of the weekend.

Meanwhile, Disney/Pixar's Incredibles 2 should finish its second frame with approximately $79 million and will near $350 million domestically by the end of the weekend. Worldwide, the Brad Bird-directed animated feature has earned about $368.5 million. However, while Incredibles 2 remains a strong performer stateside, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is besting the sequel overseas, including in China where Fallen Kingdom earned $8.31 million yesterday - its second Friday - while the Parr family only managed $4.65 million on what was their opening day.

@DoubleD - Exactly. And when Disney does finally get X-men rights from Fox they should release a Marvel crossover focused in the Savage Land the same year that Universal releases another JW sequel and really eat their lunch!

Don't care. Didn't like that last one and not watching this one unless it's with an Incredible's 2 ticket.

Good stuff. Loved the last one and thoroughly enjoyed this one. Found it to be very fun and also got pretty damn dark when it needed to be, very horror like. Looking forward to the third one for sure.

@QuiGonsGhost - why can’t the dinosaurs finally eat a kid in one of these movies? I can’t be the only one who wanted the Indominus Rex to eat both of those brats in Jurassic World. Kid in FK didn’t bother me that much

I don’t care what people say, I liked it. Sure, it may not be as powerful as the first, which I think is due to Nostalgia and such different ideas. In the end I thought it was enjoyable but I wish there was more Blue and Owen moments

This movie… was not great. It felt like a Saturday morning cartoon version of Jurassic Park. Dumb characters, nonsensical plot, and a whole lot of forgettable action. It felt like a movie written by a ten-year old. But you know what, that’s this series’ target audience.

This movie is making money because it's for the kiddies, it was also written by a man baby. What in the [frick]..

[frick] all y'all. It's got [frick]ing dinosaurs. That's enough. There's not another dinosaur franchise out there, so I'll sit my grown ass down in the theater and let my inner child go insane. Not everything needs an adult's view.

Maybe Universal should try telling the stories from the dino perspective like Planet Of The Apes franchise or Kong. Tired of seeing dino chasing humans. Get creative for freaking sake
