JURASSIC WORLD: FALLEN KINGDOM Stomps To Another #1 Finish As It Nears $1 Billion Worldwide

Universal's Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom ends its monstrous June in the same way it began the month: at the top of the worldwide box office.

The J.A. Bayona-directed blockbuster, which earned an A- CinemaScore, brought in $60 million domestically, bringing its stateside total to well over $264.8 million. Meanwhile, it raked in another $56.1 million overseas, taking its international tally to over $667.6 million. Fallen Kingdom has now collected over $932.4 million worldwide and is rapidly approaching the billion-dollar milestone with the Fourth of July holiday just around the corner.

While its unsurprisingly trailing behind its record-breaking predecessor, Fallen Kingdom is still a gargantuan hit on a $170 million production budget (not including P&A) and has cemented its place as the third-highest grossing film of the year, behind only Avengers: Infinity War ($2.03B) and Black Panther ($1.34B). The film should also become the second-highest grossing film in the Jurassic franchise (not accounting for inflation) by the end of the week when it's widely expected to top $1 billion.

Disney/Pixar's Incredibles 2 finished its third frame in second place with $45.5 million, raising its domestic haul to over $438.8 million. Globally, the Brad Bird-directed animated feature has earned over $647 million worldwide, which is more than the entire theatrical run of the original.

As for newcomers Sicario: Day of the Soldado and Uncle Drew, both films are exceeding expectations at the domestic box office and finished third and fourth, respectively. Sony's Sicario: Day of the Soldado earned $19 million domestic and $8.4 million foreign for an estimated worldwide haul of $27.4 million, which is a strong start on an estimated $35 million production budget. Lionsgate's Uncle Drew, which stars Boston Celtics superstar Kyrie Irving in the lead role, scored $15.5 million in the States, which is an impressive debut considering that it cost less than $20 million to produce.

Rounding out the domestic Top 10 are Warner Bros.' Ocean's 8 ($8.0M; $209.7M worldwide total), New Line's Tag ($5.6M; $48.3M worldwide total), 20th Century Fox's Deadpool 2 ($3.45M; $719.0M worldwide total), Fox Star's Sanju ($2.5M; $24.7M worldwide total), Disney/Lucasfilm's Solo: A Star Wars Story ($2.3M; $368.8M worldwide total), and Focus' Won't You Be My Neighbor? ($2.29M; $7.5M worldwide total).

Is it any good, personally I thought it looked OK from the trailers. You know,a couple of cool scenes but that's it.Just like the first Jurassic World movie.

@marvel72 - In my opinion the movie is not very good. The writing is quite stupid at times, and it feels like a bad b movie sequel. Still its re watchable

@marvel72 - It's really not good. It's incredibly dumb throughout. Wasn't even really any cool scenes, maybe a couple of moments of minor entertainment, but otherwise just a lot of really dumb stuff going on with dumb characters within a really dumb plot.

The whole weaponizing dinosaurs plot is just stupid. It was stupid before and it's still stupid, but even more stupid now. Stupid spoiler alert ahead!!!! The entire way that the weaponized dinosaur operates is by a dude pointing a gun at a person to laser target them, then pushing a button...which sends the dinosaur after the target. But if you have to have someone close enough to the target...with a line of sight on the target, to point a gun at the target to make the dinosaur attack......WHY NOT JUST USE THE GUN AND SHOOT THE TARGET???? Or, if you're gonna laser target something....JUST USE A MISSLE. It makes literally no sense why anyone would ever want or need a weaponized dinosaur, yet it's the idea the entire movie is built around.

@marvel72 - It's gone for a more horror monster movie vibe than any of the previous Jurassic movies. Although I thought it was cool that they were trying something a little different Personally, I just didn't like the movie overall. It's starting to feel a bit like the Terminator franchise; how often can they use the same basic premise before viewers start to get bored with it.

@bcom - Thanks,I just don't think I'll bother seeing it in the cinema.£15 quid for a movie I'm not sure that I'm gonna enjoy seems pointless.
marvel72
marvel72 - 7/2/2018, 6:19 PM
@Bobanders - That does sound pretty shit,Why not just release the Dinosaur into the target area,I don't think they need any kind of laser to hit the target. They are predators that hunt to survive.

I was pretty indifferent about Fallen Kingdom (like most JW films). Seems like it's performing like how most people expected the last one to perform. Labelling a disappointment is incorrect; when it comes to sequels to billion dollar films, staying in the billion dollar club should at least be enough for the studio.

Glad to see Incredibles 2 kicking butt. It will likely fall below Frozen globally though. I wonder what animated film will outgross it.
Oskir
Oskir - 7/1/2018, 1:23 PM
@Pantherpool - Frozen 2 maybe? Or Toy Story 4?

I heard a lot of people calling Jurassic World 2 a box office disapointment here, well the numbers show that people didn't get tired of the T-Rex yet!
Pantherpool
Pantherpool - 7/1/2018, 1:33 PM
@Oskir - Idk about Frozen 2. I just have a feeling it's going to underwhelm people which may affect it's box office. Same can be said for Toy Story 4, although I'm more confident that this one will be a pleasant surprise.

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom was a dumb movie yes, but still fun to watch (mostly thanks to Bayona and his amzing shots).

Sicario 2 was suprisely good, not as much as the first one but for a sequel no one really asked, it is well done!

And Incredibles 2 are one of the best "blockbuster" of the year so it deserves its success!

Any predictions for Ant-Man and the Wasp? I think we should be looking at an opening of around $85 million, same as Doctor Strange. That would be a similar increase between installments as that between The First Avenger and The Winter Soldier. $100M+ isn't out of the question, but it will have to pull a Civil War-Winter Soldier increase (about 88%). Not impossible, but too risky of a prediction before Thursday night numbers. Either way, July MCU flicks have strong legs (Ant-Man had 3.2 multiplier and Homecoming had like 2.9) so it's making money either way.

I enjoyed the first film much better, but I found Fallen Kingdom to be decent. They had a clear direction they were going with it, and I like where it went, I just feel it could have been executed better. The best part to me was Owen's and Blue's relationship.
