Following the recent news that Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Godzilla director Gareth Edwards will helm Universal Pictures' fourth Jurassic World movie, a new rumor doing the rounds online may have revealed the project's title.

According to insider Daniel Richtman, the movie is tentatively titled "Jurassic City."

Though this is likely subject to change, it would make sense, since the studio is said to be keen to distance this latest movie from previous instalments in the franchise to some extent. The thing is, there's already a movie called Jurassic City - a 2015 Vertical Entertainment "homage" starring Twin Peaks' Ray Wise.

We're not sure how much of an issue this would be for the studio if they wanted to use this name, but it does lead us to believe that there will be a few tweaks to that title if it does end up being accurate.

Despite word only reaching us very recently, the project is already said to be "deep in development." The studio may even be considering a 2025 release date.

Plot details are still under wraps, but the movie will reportedly launch a “new Jurassic era” with an all-new storyline, which would seem to indicate that Jurassic World stars Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard, along with the original JW crew played by Sam Neill, Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum, will not be returning.

Frank Marshall, the veteran producer who oversaw the Jurassic World trilogy, is back on board, as is another Jurassic vet, Patrick Crowley. Spielberg will executive produce via his Amblin Entertainment banner.

Leitch was in talks to direct in early February, before parting ways with the film just a few days later. Apparently, "it became clear to Leitch that his creative input would be minimal due to the project’s fast-tracked status and how the producers wanted to wield a stronger hand after the experiences of Jurassic World: Dominion."

This would seem to suggest that Edwards signed on fully aware that he won't have much say in the direction of the story.

Dominion director Colin Trevorrow will not be involved, but he did share his ideas for a potential follow-up last year.

"The previous five films are plots about dinosaurs. This one is a story about characters in a world in which they coexist with dinosaurs," said the filmmaker. "For the franchise to be able to move forward – because it’s inherently unfranchisable, there probably should have only been one Jurassic Park – but if we’re gonna do it, how can I allow them to tell stories in a world in which dinosaurs exist, as opposed to, here’s another reason why we’re going to an island?"

Do you have any interest in another Jurassic World movie? Drop us a comment down below.

"Four years after the destruction of Isla Nublar, dinosaurs now live and hunt alongside humans all over the world. This fragile balance will reshape the future and determine, once and for all, whether human beings are to remain the apex predators on a planet they now share with history's most fearsome creatures."

@MarvelousMarty - I know. Park didn't work because a lot of people got killed in the first three films. So, what would make it safer ... Let's bring the dinos to the World! Oh, but they evolve over time and make even bigger, mutated dinos to wipe out more people. So, then ... Let's downgrade to a city ... and watch more people die.

Has the dinosaur thing run its course with anyone else besides me?

They're from the world and downgrading to just a city?! I could have sworn they'd go bigger.

That can't be the real title, it's dumb as f*ck.

I LOVE dinos, i do (saw the original 3x in theaters). but i think i'm all Jurassic Park'd out after this last movie unless they come up with something completely original and blow me away with a trailer.

@Origame @earlchai - yeah i think Mark made an honest mistake. I only pointed it out because i'm a Twin Peaks fan and if Ray Wise passed away, i'd like to think i'd have heard about it before and not just in an article that mentions a straight-to-streaming JP knockoff movie Wise was in lol

Jurassic Park
Jurassic World
Jurrasic City?

Makes no sense, city is smaller than world. Shouldn't it be Jurassic Solar System? The franchise can't get anymore stupid than it is right now anyway.

Turns out that Dinosaurie are actually from Mars and a signal from Mars suddenly makes the dinos intelligent and evil. Humans then have to go to space and divert an asteroid to Mars creating an extinction level event. When the dinos on Mars dies, the ones on earth becomes stupid again.

@CommanderSune - as dumb as that sounds, it actually could make for a fairly simple premise to explain intelligent dinosaurs existing...

Hollywood needs help bad. Writers need to step up and fix this nonsense
Origame
Origame - 2/29/2024, 11:34 AM
@CommanderSune - depends on what you count as world.

World has been used as the word for a theme park before. And that was the use of the term for all the jurassic world movies, with the only exception being dominion (and there was still a park there).

So in that context, city would be bigger.

I've seen a few people on various platforms floating the idea that this will revolve around a small town dealing with the new migration pattern for certain Dino’s running right through their town. The town thus trying to save itself before said dinosaurs arrive and subsequently destroy the whole place. Title, as horrible as it is, kind of tracks if that’s the case.
