After a "monstrous" opening (the largest of 2014 thus far), Deadline is reporting Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros. are developing a sequel to the blockbuster that is Godzilla.

After opening to $103M internationally — the biggest opening of 2014 so far — and grossing $93M domestic stateside this weekend, it should come as no surprise that Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros.‘ are already developing a sequel to the monster hit. It was confirmed to Deadline this morning that a Godzilla sequel is underway. The beast is currently stomping across international markets to take No. 1 spots in most territories.

Not much is known at the moment (obviously), but it should be a safe bet Gareth Edwards will return to direct. What are your thoughts on a sequel? Sound off below!

Gareth Edwards directs “Godzilla,” which stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson (“Kick-Ass”), Oscar® nominee Ken Watanabe (“The Last Samurai,” “Inception”), Elizabeth Olsen (“Martha Marcy May Marlene”), Oscar® winner Juliette Binoche (“The English Patient,” “Cosmopolis”), and Sally Hawkins (“Blue Jasmine”), with Oscar® nominee David Strathairn (“Good Night, and Good Luck.,” “The Bourne Legacy”) and Bryan Cranston (“Argo,” TV’s “Breaking Bad”).

That song was a blatant rip-off of Brave by Sarah Bareilis.

Wasn't incredibly impressed by Godzilla but it wasn't the worst film I've seen this year, I'll definitely give the sequel a try

It could've been more in my opinion, but it was a really good movie, and definitely worthy of a sequel.

Solid movie, I really really enjoyed it. But I actually don't want a sequel to this at all. Are the sequels just going to be more kaiju coming out of nowhere and attacking cities, forcing Godzilla to save our butts again and again? I feel like this movie is better served as a standalone movie. No need for any more sequels to water it down.

But realistically I the studio would never just sit on a money-making franchise like this and not make sequels. Unfortunate, but inevitable.

I [frick]ing hate those condescending pricks who sneeringly say with such smugness that another person is a lower life form who must require lowly levels of entertainment for simply finding something boring they didn't.

Watched it yesterday. It was pretty good.

Slow at times, but the final fight and the way it ended was awesome. It got claps in the theater.

It wasn't a pile of shit but it wasn't magnificent. I wish the story stuck more with cranston than his shitty son. Shitty "MUTOS". Should have been Rodan.

I'd ask you to fortify your "house" BlackJack, but there isn't really much point.

I give it a 6.5 or 7/10

Was enjoyable but had tons more potential. That ending fight was great.
