THE MATRIX 4 Casts Former SPARTACUS & INTO THE BADLANDS Star Ellen Hollman In A Mystery Role

The Wrap has learned that Warner Bros.' and Village Roadshow's highly anticipated Matrix sequel, tentatively titled The Matrix 4, has added some serious firepower in actress - and trained Jiu Jitsu martial artist - Ellen Hollman (SpartacusInto the Badlands). However, further details on her undisclosed role are currently unavailable.

She'll be seen sporting an all-new look in the film, trading out her long blonde locks for a shorter jet black hairstyle that bears a striking resemblance to Trinity's (Carrie-Anne Moss) original cut. With the film heavily rumored to feature a younger version of Morpheus, could we also see a younger version of Trinity, with Hollman playing the part? It's probably unlikely with Moss returning, but it's also a possibility that certainly can't be ruled out.

Hollman joins a stellar cast headlined by returning stars Keanu Reeves (John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum) and Carrie-Anne Moss (Marvel's Jessica Jones), who will both reprise their original trilogy roles as Neo and Trinity, respectively. Jada Pinkett Smith (Gotham) has also been confirmed to return as Niobe from Reloaded and Revolutions, and Lambert Wilson (Benedetta) is also rumored to return as The Merovingian.

The new cast will be comprised of Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Watchmen), Jessica Henwick (Iron Fist), Neil Patrick Harris (Gone Girl), Jonathan Groff (Mindhunter), Max Riemelt (Sense8), Toby Onwumere (Sense8), Eréndira Ibarra (Sense8), Brian J. Smith (Sense8), Andrew Caldwell (iZombie) and Priyanka Chopra (Don - The Chase Begins Again).

After helming the previous three installments with her sister, Lana Wachowski will be the sole director on the sequel, working off a screenplay she co-wrote with Aleksander Hemon (Sense8) and David Mitchell (Cloud Atlas).

Principal photography is currently underway in San Francisco, California.

The Matrix 4 hits theaters May 21, 2021.

Cat’s out of the bag...or should I say white rabbit?#Matrix4 🐰 Life...when you boil it down, is really just a series of moments isn’t it? Some moments bring an echelon of elation, others a myriad of devastation. Like many of you, I am no stranger to either. Particularly in my chosen career path....yikes. You put up with a lot of sh*t over the course of 2 decades. Moments you’re told you’re “not enough” for an onslaught of reasons (age, height, credits, weight blah blah blah) and you have many who don’t believe in your abilities...some that even fire you. You also have others who are kind to your face but place the dagger carefully in your spine (perhaps because they lack one🤷🏻‍♀️) Regardless of those less than desirable moments, if you choose persevere, if you choose YOU, there is a possibility you can experience a moment like this. Yes, it’s merely a few words on a bright screen in the endless void that is the internet, but to me? This single moment justifies the climb, justifies the doubt, justifies why you: Never. Give.Up. Thank you to ALL who have given me their light and love, their blind encouragement and praise. @stephendunlevy @pmbrownla THANK YOU for all that you are and the @87elevenaction family for your irreplaceable knowledge! Now...into the MATRIX😎🖤 - - - #matrix #matrix4 #neo #trinity #morpheus #actress #drama #action #dreamjob #keanureeves #keanu Phot cred @bkheadshots @thewrap
