THE MATRIX RESURRECTIONS: Neo And Trinity Return In Visually Stunning First Trailer

As promised, the first trailer for The Matrix Resurrections has been released online, and if you weren't sufficiently hyped for this fourth instalment in the franchise, you will be after watching this!

The first trailer for The Matrix Resurrections is now online!

The footage begins with Keanu Reeves' Neo - now going by the name Thomas - meeting with his psychiatrist (Neil Patrick Harris) to discuss some vivid dreams he's been having. Thomas has no memory of The Matrix or his former life, and is convinced he must be going crazy.

From there, we see a reunion between Neo and Carrie-Anne Moss' Trinity (though they don't recognize each other at first), and plenty of visually stunning action as our heroes encounter who we presume to be a younger incarnation of Morpheus (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II), and a mysterious warrior (Jessica Henwick) who appears to know exactly who Neo really is.

While this is certainly an effective teaser, it does suggest that this movie will be more a reboot than a direct sequel to the original trilogy, and we still have no idea how Neo and Trinity are alive again after the events of Revolutions. Of course, with a title like Resurrections, there's a good chance it will be addressed!

Other franchise returnees include Jada Pinkett Smith as Niobe, Lambert Wilson as The Merovingian, and Daniel Bernhardt as Agent Johnson. Also joining the cast will be Andrew Caldwell, Priyanka Chopra, Jonathan Groff, Neil Patrick Harris, Ellen Hollman, Eréndira Ibarra, Toby Onwumere, Christina Ricci, Max Riemelt, and Brian J. Smith.

The Matrix Resurrections is directed by Lana Wachowski, and will be released in theaters and on HBO Max simultaneously on December 22.

Ugh. It's got me one second and then the trailer cuts to something that makes me wanna turn it off, but then I'm hooked again.
End of the day it's Matrix nostalgia bait and I don't have particularly high expectations.
But [frick], I'm probably gonna check it out in spite of myself.
Naked sweaty drum circle or gtfo!

@PapaSpank54 - it is and its not nostalgia... Neo literally lived a million lives within the Matrix... we are just seeing the 2nd version put to film... and hopefully it knocks it out of the park!

Trailer is a lot better than I thought it would be, movie looks a lot more interesting than just being a simple, lesser retread of what came before. Some pretty sweet visuals, and White Rabbit was a great choice to use for this trailer. Still, Wachowski has a pretty crappy record for directing, so being extremely cautiously optimistic.

@HeavyMetal4Life - I really like that this movie has a different look to it than the originals. Plus from what I see in the trailer it looks like it could be a pretty interesting story. I wonder why the machines would fix up Neo.

@HeavyMetal4Life -
I loved Speed Racer and Cloud Atlas.

Here for it. The tone does seem more comical though. Henwick is gona kill it

@Jaykay21 - wow, didn't realize that was Henwick. She seems like a reworked version of the bodyguard for the Oracle.

Because of his looks it just seems like another part of John Wick. Why he insists of keeping same looks in whatever movie, game or whatever he appears in

@ElectricRetard - he also wakes up in the pod again, so he won't have hair or a beard
CorndogBurglar

@ElectricRetard - Maybe he should shave the beard but keep the hair. Then He'd look like Ted Theodore Logan. Or maybe he should shave the beard and cut his hair. Then he'd look like homeboy from Speed and Point Break.

He's been in so many movies and there's only so much he can do with his hair and facial hair. He's always going to look like another role he did.

@ElectricRetard - LOL have you seen him without the beard like in Bill & Ted 3?
He actually looks younger with a beard.

Looks like some Equilibrium/Matrix mash up
Origame
Origame - 9/9/2021, 6:38 AM
@johndoe243 - so...the matrix? Seriously, what about this is all that equilibrium like besides what the matrix already did?
Thebatmangrowl
Thebatmangrowl - 9/10/2021, 8:36 PM
@Origame - because it looks like Neo is taking a daily supplement of the blue pill to fit in with society. Similar to equilibrium when the masses take a pill to take away emotion and free will. I would imagine you would get this comparison. You did not.
Origame
Origame - 9/11/2021, 4:28 AM
@Thebatmangrowl - ...and that's something already in the matrix. Sure, he wasn't specifically taking them daily, but blue pills were already firmly established as a metaphor for hiding in a false reality. This is something equilibrium took from the matrix.

I am big fan of the Matrix movies, even the 2nd and 3rd one I like. And am excited for the 4 one, this trailer was awesome, I just hope the story is better than the 2nd and 3rd one, visually it looks great. And it seems Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is playing a younger Morpheus.
Kumkani
Kumkani - 9/9/2021, 6:14 AM
Looks okay. It's missing that familiar green hue that made the Matrix feel distinct. Without it, it just looks like any other film.
GhostDog
GhostDog - 9/9/2021, 6:17 AM
@Kumkani - I knew something seemed off. And that is it, the hue.
Archgoat
Archgoat - 9/9/2021, 6:20 AM
@Kumkani - I liked what I saw but you're right. Kinda looks more generic, original Matrix was pretty unique. Clothes look normal as well, hopefully Neo and Trinity will wear some combat gear once they get their memories back.
Kumkani
Kumkani - 9/9/2021, 6:23 AM
@BlackBeltJones - It makes the film look like any other action film. Take away the CGI stuff and it looks like a slightly less neon John Wick.

I'm surprised it's gone considering Lana is directing this and I remember that the green hue was a big part of differentiating between the Matrix and the real world.
Kumkani
Kumkani - 9/9/2021, 6:25 AM
@Archgoat - Yea it's a bit weird too because Y2K style is kinda making a comeback and these outfits don't immediately grab me. Part of the appeal of the first film was just how cool and stylish everyone looked.

I also just think Keanu's long hair and scruffy beard isn't working for him as well as he thinks.
GhostDog
GhostDog - 9/9/2021, 6:25 AM
@Kumkani - It does feel John Wick-ish and just like a film that wants to look like The Matrix but isn't really a part of this universe.
