A creepy new sci-fi horror short called Repressed is now online, and you can check it out below.

Repressed was directed and co-written by Jon Lee Brody (DC Universe All Star Games), who put the whole thing together during lockdown. The film begins with a man (Rio Magdaleno) talking to his psychiatrist (Danah Davis Williams) about childhood recollections of his father. The Doctor suggests a radical new form of therapy that will allow him to unlock some repressed memories, and things quickly take a sinister turn.

The short has been compared to Black Mirror, and it's easy to see why. Brody manages to pack a lot of tension and even a few genuine jolts into just over 9 minutes, and we wouldn't be at all surprised if some big studios took notice.

Have a look, and let us know what you think in the comments.

Chris (Rio Magdaleno) seeks out an experimental treatment that will give him access to his repressed memories in efforts to deal with this trauma.

I love the minimalistic feel and how much can be done with it. Unfortunately this just went nowhere lol.

I don’t get it. And playing a creepy song is only effective if it makes any sense. What the [frick] is good ship lollypop doing at the end? What does that have to do with anything? Is it just used because it sounds spooky like tiptoe through the tulips from Insidious?

Is the idea is that he got possessed by a demon as a kid and got his mum killed and then the demon was exorcised into his subconscious and the machine let it out?

Or that he got his mum killed by accident and his dad went crazy and abusive and super religious and treated him like he was possessed and he smiles because the machine cured him? Then why the creepy music? Or did he get stuck in his repressed nightmare by the machine? Then why is he smiling?

Ambiguity is only clever if something interesting is going on. I don’t know what the [frick] the point of that was. Sorry. If you’re gonna invest all that time and creativity and money into 7 minutes, make your story kickass and clear with a good ending.

Shame, the directing and acting and production was good.
