Vin Diesel recently updated his Facebook page with a new video of himself and director David Twohy where they answer a fans question about the status of their upcoming 'Riddick' movie and what sort of direction their going with it in terms of the tone of the movie.

David Twohy: The movie itself is gonna be a lot like 'Pitch Black' because of the money involved because we want to maintain our "R" rating.

Vin Diesel: Which is a BIG deal.

David Twohy: At any cost..

Vin Diesel: We've committed to going "R".

David Twohy: It'll probably be a little tougher than 'Chronicles' was but more like 'Pitch Black', in that regard anyway. We are gonna be lean, and we're gonna do it quick, and it's gonna be a cool movie I can tell you that

And here's a synopsis of the film via ComingSoon:
"Betrayed by his own kind and left for dead on a desolate planet, Riddick (Diesel) fights for survival against alien predators and becomes more powerful and dangerous than ever before. Soon bounty hunters from throughout the galaxy descend on Riddick only to find themselves pawns in his greater scheme for revenge. With his enemies right where he wants them, Riddick unleashes a vicious attack of vengeance before returning to his home planet of Furya to save it from destruction."

I'm pretty excited for this movie, I loved 'Pitch Black', and 'Chronicles' was pretty good, not as good as the first, but I'm really looking forward to what they can do with 'Riddick' but by the looks of Vin in that video he might want to tone it down a little bit, he's huge.

The movie itself is gonna be a lot like 'Pitch Black'. Translation: Pitch Black was well received so we'd like fans to associate the new movie with that.... Because it will be cheaper than a Syfy "original" movie.

i liked the theatrical version of COR more than the directors cut in this case, as sometimes stuff is better left on the editing room floor. In any case i thought both films were great....never did get the haters on this one.

So people are against COR? I love that movie. I thought the story and character development was really good. Some people have no taste at all...

On a side note, if this new Riddixk is a sequel, how on earth is he back on Furya? Wasn't that place destroyed? Riddick became the lord marshal of that Necro army. So he's supposed to run shit now. They can't do a prequel; Vin is too old for that, now. You can see it in his face. Hm, strange direction they're taking. It seems repetitive.

Yawn. I'm so tired of vengeance flicks. Hollywood lost it's edge BIG time.

They make it seem like the "franchise" is heading into more daring territory when he's sitting in the thrown at the end of COR. But since that's too epic and expensive, they will go back to the school project indy film style of Pitch Black and try to cash in on that. *raspberry*

The ONLY thing wrong with COR was the rating. Other than that, the story was solid and epic as well as the effects and action. The acting was decent too. The reason it is being hated on so much is only because it was a let down from the awesomeness of Pitch Black. So incorporating what worked in both films should definitely be the blueprint for the next. As for the FastFart films, they stopped being good after the first one.

I liked Chronicles of Riddick better than Pitch Black. Looking forward to seeing Riddick on the screen again.

Somehow, I much preferred Chronicles, felt a bit like King Conan at the end. While Pitch was a simple horror, the other was more Sci-fi. It's only an opinion...

Wow, i'm honestly SHOCKED that there are so many people who liked C.O.R. better than PITCH BLACK!

I really don't understand how anyone could prefer C.O.R., but to each his own i guess...

Can't wait for Riddick...

I liked both films, but especially the first.

Nerdy guy with glasses- "Paris P. Olgilvie. Antiquities dealer, entrepreneur."
Riddick- "Richard B. Riddick. Escaped convict. Murderer."

COR is an excellent movie!!

I'll take it over Pitch Black anyday. This is a bit of a letdown for me, because I thought it was cool that he kept what he killed, and I want to see how Riddick handles being the leader of the Necromongors.
