Best known for playing Sherlock Holmes in the BBC TV series of the same name, Benedict Cumberbatch has recently started making the jump to the big screen with roles in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and The Hobbit. Deadline has revealed this evening that he will now star in a leading role in the hightly anticipated Star Trek sequel while Variety's Jeff Sneider adds that it is in fact the villainous part that Benicio Del Toro turned down and Edgar Ramirez recently auditioned for.
