Captain Kirk wears supportive undergarments

Ok, so I just went to see Star Trek, and this is the review from my non-fan perspective. *Spoilers included*

Ok, so I'll be the first to admit I know almost nothing of the pop-culture phenomenon known as Star Trek. The only things I know are the things that EVERYONE knows. Such as, "Live long and prosper" and stuff like that.

Going into this movie, I was very excited. I saw the buzz on this movie about a year ago and thought nothing of it. To me, the Trek franchise had died out.

Then I saw the preview.

After seeing that first trailer, it was the highest movie on my list to go see this year. I thought to myself, "Self," myself said, "Hmm?" Then I told myself, "That is something I REALLY have to go see." I replied, "I agree."

After viewing this movie, all I have to say about this movie can be summed up into four little words. This movie was epic. Not to mention, it brought me and my Trekkie girlfriend a little bit closer bond, not that you needed to know that.

But I'm not going to stop my review there. That would be too short and boring. Thus, I continue.

The first thing I want to get into is the opening of the movie. It was amazing. Even though they was only onscreen for less than 10 minutes, I felt deeply connected to George Kirk and his wife near their end. The way that George said good-bye and how it was such a bittersweet day for his wife played out perfectly. The whole montage before the crash and the birth of James was a classic style of symbolism of having the death and birth of a great man happen at the same time.

Now for the rest of the movie. There's not much to talk about. The effects shots were flawless, the acting was amazing, the script was fun yet intelligent (which is hard to find these days), and had captivating plot twists. This movie is definitely one of the best made in a long time, and in my honest opinion, I believe this to be a new modern classic. There were intense emotional moments, great action sequences, and some hilarious gags. This movie has it all.

The actors cast did a great job. Chris Pine reminded me of a young William Shatner, only in better shape. The actor chosen to play Spock MUST be a good actor to do what he did. When Spock is not supposed to show emotion, his face was bland, but you could see it all in his eyes. The fury, the sorrow, the love. He was amazing.

Moving on to the cliches. There are a lot of things everyone will recognize. The Vulcan hand gesture, "Set the phasers to stun..." those kinds of things. There were two moments that interested me the most though. One was one that didn't happen at all. The line of "Beam me up, Scotty." It's a classic line that everyone knows and uses, even if you're not a Trek fan. I was kinda bummed when they didn't use it in the movie. The other thing I want to mention was the first time you hear the words "Live long and prosper." It wasn't in the traditional sense of a friendly farewell, it was more like an "F*ck you, bitches" type subtext. That was priceless.

Now, that I've got that all out of the way, it's time to tell about my least favorite part of the movie. There was only one, and it's not even that important.

When Captain Kirk is fighting Nero's second in command on the balcony thing, he gets to where he is hanging on the ledge. When that Romulan picked Kirk up, you could see the wire harness under his pants. That was the ONLY thing I found wrong with this movie.

I give this movie a 10/10

the only reason beam me up scottie wasn't used is because in fact it has never been used in star trek ever it is one of those pop culture things that manifest itself even though it has never been said.
