First STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER Clip Is Akin To MAD MAX As The Jet Troopers Leap Into Action

There's less than a month to go until Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker arrives in theaters, and Lucasfilm has today released the first clip from the highly anticipated "Skywalker Saga" finale.

Asyou can see in the player below, we're off to Pasaana as the franchise's heroes attempt to escape on a speeder from the formidable looking Jet Troopers. It's a humorous moment as they realise that Stormtroopers can fly now, but also one which might bring back memories of Mad Max given some of the visuals and action on display.

In terms of story details, there's not much that's revealed here, but it's great to finally see Rey, Finn, Poe Dameron, Chewbacca, Threepio, and BB-8 together after they were separated in The Last Jedi (Rey and Poe didn't actually meet until the very end of that divisive movie).

We'll no doubt have more on The Rise of Skywalker for you soon and we can expect even more clips to come our way over the coming weeks. For now, check this first one out below:

I won't fully unleash my thoughts, as I still have to watch Revenge of the Sith, but I'm rewatching the whole saga in chronological timeline order (starting witht he prequels) in 4K on Disney+ and I must say, as clunky as a lot of pieces may be, so far I am coming to appreciate the prequels more and more for what they were. There is something in there that is simply missing from this sequel trilogy. It just feels hollow. That missing piece may be George Lucas, again, as toxic as his touch may ultimately be, his movies felt more unique than what we've been getting since he sold them away.

@SpideyPuffsMJ - George brought a sense of urgency and, despite it being shaky here and there, a thematic heft to the prequels that this new trilogy seems to be missing. George brings a lot of great stuff to the table, its just that he needs be reigned in at times.

They're bad movies that have a great story and the vibe of a grand fantasy in space, but their biggest problems are pacing and dialogue, two signs that what Lucas really needed was an editor and a another screenwriter to take a second look at his script. With the right supporting pieces, they had all the elements story wise to be great.

@SpideyPuffsMJ - His movies may be unique, but that doesn't make them good. I'm rewatching all of them, same as you (except I'm doing one per week; I watched Empire this past Saturday), and the prequels really don't hold up. Especially Attack of the Clones; that one's only gotten worse. As far as something like letter grades go, I never figured I'd give a Star Wars movie an F, but Attack of the Clones might be an F.

Why have motorbikes in a world with literal flying speeders? The catapults on the back of them look like toy designs more than anything functional.

I'm really digging the aesthetic. In terms of how it's shot, it feels really different from TFA. Abrams said in an interview that TLJ inspired him to shake things up with his directing style, and I feel like that's on display here. TLJ looked super crisp and clean and had a lot more flowing camera movement while TFA felt like it was copying the way the original films were shot almost to a fault; the way the camera moved, having a [frick]ton of grain on the image (I'm surprised they didn't go in and put cigarette burns in there like Machete or Ouija 2). Abrams could've very easily gone with that style again for this movie, but the fact that he seems to be willing to shake things up a bit is pretty admirable.

“Oh! They fly now.”
Good. Proper.

Finn and Poe repeating it...Nope. Too modern, too silly...Not SW.

@IronGenesis - I honestly don't get the complaints with these movies about the humor feeling too "modern". Time has passed in the series, and humor evolves over time, so why shouldn't humor evolve in real-time within the Star Wars universe? I'd rather the humor feel more modern than rely on old vaudevillian schtick that doesn't work anymore. If anything, I have a bigger problem with the style of humor in the prequels, since it's supposed to be taking place years before the originals and yet the humor feels so much more modern and more pop-culture reference-y (look no further than that annoying two-headed announcer [frick]er during the podrace in Episode 1). I feel like it's important to keep that context in mind.
