STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS Gets An Earlier Release In The U.K. & France

It's not much earlier, but yes, according to the official Facebook page British, French (and presumably Irish) fans of the galaxy far, far away will indeed get to see J.J. Abrams' new Star Wars movie before those in the U.S. Find out exactly when after the jump...

Don't worry, if you live in the U.S. you're not going to have to wait too much longer than fans in the U.K. to see Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The movie's official Facebook page has posted the 100 days countdown vid below, confirming that the release is scheduled for December 17th in the United Kingdom - and France are luckier again, as they'll get to see it on the 16th. We're not sure why the decision was made to release it that bit earlier in those territories, but hey, it's only 24 hours. 24 agonizing Star Wars-less hours.

The Force Awakens will be released in the UK on December 17th. The 100 day countdown starts today!

Posted by Star Wars on Monday, September 7, 2015

Starring original cast members Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, Kenny Baker and franchise newcomers, John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, Gwendoline Christie, Lupita Nyong’o and Max von Sydow, Star Wars: The Force Awakens is set to be released on December 18th, 2015.

Still don't understand why they can't release films on the same [frick]ing day worldwide. At least it's not as bad as the Marvel films coming out 2 weeks earlier in the UK.

In France movies come out on wednesdays. The reason is because in the '50s-'60s, kids had no school on tuesdays, so movies came out the night before and they could watch them on wednesday night or tuesday.
Yeah, it's a pretty dumb rule, especially since schools are open on tuesdays for more than 30 years now...

[frick] France. They should get it a week late, or just not at all. I won't be surprised if companies get tired of dealing with shitty French traditions and regulations. Google, for example, should just pull all Google-related services out of France and tell their customers that they cannot operate due to their country's government, and if they want Google products, they should tell their government to stop being little pansies.

Anyways, when they say the release dates in these countries is the 16th and the 17th, do they mean that the first showing will be on the 15th and 16th respectively? The U.S. release date is the 18th but the first showing will likely be 7pm on the 17th.

It's probably a good sign. Most of the big money is here in the U.S. If the movie is good, showing it early overseas could generate positive buzz over here before opening day. I think if the movie sucked, they probably wouldn't do that. I could be wrong, though. It's just a theory.
