STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI Director Rian Johnson Not Involved With EPISODE IX's Script

On paper, it seemed like Lucasfilm would create great synergy by having the director of Episode VIII write the script for Episode IX. Per Rian Johnson, that's actually not going to be the case.

It seems Episode IX director Colin Trevorrow and Derek Connolly will be writing the script for the follow-up to Star Wars: The Last Jedi without any aid or input from Rian Johnson. It was initially announced back in June 2014, that Johnson would be creating a treatment for Trevorrow and Connolly to follow but somewhere along the way of Episode VIII's production, that idea was nixed.

With Trevorrow and his Jurassic World scribe seemingly writing the trilogy's finale on their own has that development changed your anticipation for Episode IX? The duo crafted the surprise 2012 indie sci-fi feature Safety Not Guaranteed, which slingshot them to such projects as the fourth Jurassic World film and Kong: Skull Island.  While both films achieved marked box office success, critics didn't necessarily list either film's scripts as notable strengths.

Not looking forward to episode 9.

But The Last Jedi should be one of the best Star Wars films.

Really don't know why they won't keep the same director for more than one movie...

@Doomsday8888 - Probably to keep themselves from burning out like George Lucas did.

Not surprising that the director of one movie won't be writing a movie directed by another guy who also writes. Makes sense to me. I'm okay with this.

I can see a lot of people not being happy with this.

Still don't understand why Trevorrow was hired...

Besides the fact that he's a Spielberg Acolyte.

I would've rather had Johnson direct and write 9 or get someone like Duncan Jones.

@BlackBeltJones - Well, after Warcraft, Jones has a snowball's chance in hell of getting a Star Wars movie. (And I say this as someone who likes Warcraft.)
