STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER Director J.J. Abrams Reveals His Favorite Scene From The Prequels

Ask most fans about their favourite moment in the Star Wars prequels and they'd probably say, "When they ended." However, J.J. Abrams has one, and you can find out which scene stands out to him right here!

Say what you will about the Star Wars prequels, but they certainly had their moments, and while the trilogy mostly disappointed, it would be unfair to say that they were all bad. During a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker director J.J. Abrams was asked which scene from the George Lucas-directed movies stands out to him and he singled out one particularly memorable moment.

According to the filmmaker, The Revenge of the Sith's "seduction" scene featuring Palpatine luring Anakin Skywalker to the Dark Side by recounting the tale of Darth Plagueis was a highlight for him.

"There’s just something about that scene," Abrams says. "There’s just two people sitting there. It’s visually interesting. But I just think Ian’s performance in it is spectacular." When the director asked the interviewer what his favourite scene was, he mentioned the iconic lightsaber battle from The Phantom Menace that ends with Obi-Wan Kenobi slicing Darth Maul in half.

Abrams agreed that it was "amazing," but noted that it was also disappointing in many ways because Maul was so heavily hyped during the movie's marketing campaign only to then be killed off before being given the chance to develop as a character. "It was over too quickly," he said before acknowledging that the villain was given another chance in The Clone Wars and Rebels.

Say what you like about the prequels but they really put the Wars in Star Wars. So many good battles. Geonisis, Kashyyyk, Courscant, Naboo. Nothing in the sequels compares.

@Nightwing1015 - It also put the Star in Star Wars. So many different planets were visited in those movies.

@Nightwing1015 - The thing about the OT and the sequels was an overarching theme that carried through the stories. Nothing at all really in the new ones. Can't really go see the next one unless it all ends up being a strange dream Luke had ala that Dallas episode.

I'd say the main difference between the two 'hyped up via marketing' characters Darth Maul and Captain Phasma is that quite a lot of people would declare the epic Duel of the Fates their movie/trilogy favourite moment, while surprisingly few go with "seemingly killed off-screen in the trash compactor after doing nothing of relevance".

Idk how the best scene isn’t the super epic battle between Obi-wan and Anakin where Obi-wan tells Ani that he was the chosen one and was supposed to bring balance to the force, that he was like a brother.. and then ominously warns him his has the higher ground. .. closely followed by the seen where he awakes as Vader only to find out Padame is dead and he screams “Nooooo!”

@MuadDib - Tottally agree with you.
And it's something that bothers me a lot about this site. Whhy do you not realize is a marketing trick? Disney is an expert in managing their social media, it is obvious that they will be reminding us every second that Palpatine exists. It is the "sales point" of this movie.
Don't be silly, don't fall for disney bullshit

It’s hard to pick. So many epic Action set pieces with outstanding visuals, imagination and bolstered by a John Williams score that is first rate.

It would probably come down to...
- Extended Pod Race
- Qui-Gon/Obi-Wan vs Maul
- Courascant Night Chase
- Yoda finally fights Dooku
- Anakin/Palpatine Talk
- Obi-Wan vs. Anakin
- ROTS Closing Montage
