STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER Novelization Reveals Which Jedi Voices Leia "Occasionally" Heard

Another excerpt from the Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker novelization has been revealed, and this one sheds some light on whose voices Leia would hear through the Force after ending her Jedi training...

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker confirmed that Leia started training to become a Jedi following the events of Return of the Jedi, but she ended that after sensing that her son Ben Solo would die if she were to continue (he did anyway, of course, but ended up helping bring Balance to the Force).

Now, another big reveal from the novelization reveals that despite deciding against becoming a Jedi Knight, Leia still received guidance through the Force thanks to some familiar voices.

"Leia was no Jedi Master, but she had learned from the best," this excerpt reads. "And not just from Luke; over the years she'd occasionally heard the voice of Obi-Wan Kenobi through the Force, and even more rarely, that of Yoda. Some days it had felt as though she'd learned from the Force itself."

Once again, it's a shame that The Rise of Skywalker didn't actually show us this, but seeing as director J.J. Abrams was working with limited footage of Carrie Fisher from The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi, that would probably have been a lot easier said than done. Ultimately, not having Leia become a Jedi Knight feels like a major missed opportunity, especially after that random reveal in the latter movie.

If nothing else, this novelization has been a good source for filling in some gaps, but the vast majority of moviegoers will never read it, and that leaves the film a somewhat underwhelming experience.

Do you think reveals like this are helping or hurting The Rise of Skywalker?

I was wondering (but too bored to look it up) if the novelization is also written by Abbrams and Terrio or if there is another writer filling up all these gaps

Wow, and just imagine how good her kid will have it with that kind of knowledge and support at his disposal. Right, Jedi folks, alive or dead?! Right?! ...guys?

Listen I really really enjoyed the new trilogy, Star Wars will always be THAT set of movies for me.....but damn sometimes I wonder what could have Been. Seeing more of Luke and Leia and the Jedi training. Or just seeing the original three all together on screen.

“but the vast majority of moviegoers will never read it.” CBM users won’t have to read the novelization if CBM editors keep posting these articles.

Man, the Carrie Fisher soundboard they tried to use for this movie just didnt work for me at all. It wouldve been better if she just wasnt in it.

@NathimusPrime - I remember seeing someone suggest that IX should begin with a funeral for Han, Luke, and Leia. They could say the radiation got to her after her spacewalk. That retroactively makes the spacewalk less of an offence because then Leia didn't just survive but rather just allotted herself some borrowed time.

We and future generations (not that they would be interested in thes sequels) would all understand why and that Leia had to go off-screen.

Maybe that would've been too emblematic of the sequels though — the original and beloved characters all dead and buried beside each other.
