STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER Will Give Ousted Director Colin Trevorrow A "Story By" Credit

Former Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker director Colin Trevorrow parted ways with Lucasfilm over "creative differences" but he'll still receive a "Story by" credit on the movie. Read on for details...

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker was originally supposed to be directed by Jurassic World helmer Colin Trevorrow but some last-minute "creative differences" led to Lucasfilm turning to J.J. Abrams to take charge of the final chapter in the Skywalker Saga. He brought writer Chris Terrio with him but it seems at least some of Trevorrow's ideas will still be included.

According to Collider, the Writers Guild of America has decided that Episode IX will include a "Story by Derek Connolly & Colin Trevorrow and Chris Terrio & J. J. Abrams" credit.

We may never know how much of the story that makes it to the big screen was dreamed up by Trevorrow but he was going to serve as both co-writer and director so you have to believe he contributed a lot before Lucasfilm decided he wasn't the right fit for this story in a Galaxy Far, Far Away.

Trevorrow is currently busy planning out the next Jurassic World movie but it's said that as an official co-writer, he should receive a decent amount of residuals (and seeing as The Rise of Skywalker will earn at least $1 billion, that's not a bad haul at all). The final screenplay, however, will be credited solely to Terrio and Abrams.

Shouldn’t that be “Attempted further destruction of the Stars Wars mythos by:’ ?

Unlike Favreau. That dude should be given the keys to the kingdom. Man, I really had zero expectations of The Mandalorian, but hell was I wrong! My god, the surprise at the end of the first ep 🤯 and the first 10 minutes of the second 🤤I felt like I was 10 years old again, watching the OT. I swear to Christ, I actually let out a squeak of joy when SPOILER used the Force 🥺 THAT shit is Star Wars. 🦾

@Tasmaniac - I agree the Mandalorian is absolutely fantastic.

Good, because he's (somewhat) equally to blame.

@L0RDbuckethead - Well now we know he can't go back to his original plan he layed out before Johnson threw it out. So I guess we have more to blame on Johnson.
Give it a few months I bet people will start posting #ReleaseTheAbbramsTrilogy
even though he is as hit or miss as Zack Snyder

It’s bizarre that I’ve been more excited for a first time live action series, a game made by developers with not a reliable track record for Star Wars games and Kevin Feige coming over to do a film I still have no idea what it could be about - than I am for this Star Wars film.

If only 2015 me could see me now...

@Se4M4NSt4ine - Respawn is one of the best developers in the business right now.

@Nebula - I was talking about their publisher, EA.

@BountyCipher - Yeah Titanfall was a blast and fun, but it’s not even in my top 100 of best games. Apex was also fun, but again - it didn’t bring anything new to the game genre.

@Se4M4NSt4ine - Alright then, well maybe don't say developer.

@BountyCipher - Mostly consisting of the original incarnation of Infinity Ward, as in the guys behind COD4 and MW2. Titanfall 2 is one of the best first-person shooters of the decade — both the campaign and multiplayer. Fallen Order is a massive success and Apex Legends is still one of the most popular games currently doing the rounds.

@BountyCipher - Did you or did you not play this level?

Each story mission introduced a mechanic which would've been something core to a lesser game. The one character that existed throughout the whole thing, you actually cared for. The boss battles were all unique.
The multiplayer speaks for itself — I'd still be playing it now if it were populated.

I wouldn't put Rockstar on that list but Respawn can go there with Insomniac.

So I guess Abbrams couldnt just go back to the original plan he layed out for the trilogy before Johnson threw it away. Wow was this trilogy mismanaged. Get Kathleen Kennedy out of there, this is not how a multi billion dollar franchise should be run.
Although hopefully people dont start pushing for something like
#ReleaseTheAbbramsTrilogy
he has a better track record than Snyder, but is still pretty hit or miss.
Plus that would be a never ending thing, no studio would be willing to finance 2 movies just to redo what they just did

If I wasn’t already skeptical of this movie, a “&” and a “and” in the story credits isn’t a sign of improvement
DalekCraigWasson
DalekCraigWasson - 11/18/2019, 6:23 AM
@MalseMarcel - & means together; and means separate. So Connolly & Trevorrow wrote a draft and Terrio & Abrams wrote a draft.

@DalekCraigWasson - I know what they mean, that's why I'm still sceptical. It implies they're keeping the story from a guy who left over ''creative differences''. I don't really see that as a good sign

Eh. It was probably contractual. I mean look at all those names.
Kyos
Kyos - 11/18/2019, 3:20 AM
So 3/4 of the story credit go to 1) guy who initially thought Leia ignoring Chewie after Han's death was a good idea, 2) fired-long-ago Jurassic World guy, and 3) BvS guy. I'm just thrilled.

Also unsure if I even want to look up what guy #4 has done so far.
Kyos

Ah, #4 regularly works with Trevorrow.

I’m not positive Rise of Skywalker will make $1 Billion. I’ve got it opening under $150 million here in the U.S. that makes it’s path to a Billion a little more challenging. Not impossible, but not a sure thing.
Nebula

I just think it's a ploy to make it seem like this was planned all along. We all know it wasn't.
