When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes—a washed up former pilot and an untested trainee — who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.

Is this gonna be one of those movies where the military causes more damage than the bad guys?

@ Psyboy - The only two pairs of movies in competition with each other this summer are Iron Man and Star Trek, and Pacific Rim and The Wolverine.

Pacific Rim doesn't have anything to worry about since The Wolverine will be poop.

Cloudy skies+flying debris+sparks+weapon(the jaeger)= Stunning

It's good but now that we know the formula for making "stunning" posters it's not as stunning. This is the formula that I am going to use for this year's Christmas cards with the family.

Oh I wasn't talking about the box office numbers. I just think it's going to be forgotten and not that many are REALLY looking forward to it.

I don't know why, but the poster feels kinda retro, like Japan made this in 80's or something, I dig it.

a large group on this site has been talking about how important it is to see mos to help insure a jl flick, and thats cool and all but i think there should be more talk about supporting this film to help insure a jl dark flick! i think this movie is going to be really good as del toro alway delivers the goods but part of me gets worried that the general public won't be that into this. anyone else get that feeling?

@TaoOfTheBatman-
I agree, this movie has a lot riding on it. JL Dark, Godzilla, Voltron, and a possible Gundam movie. If this movie is a success we could see a lot of new oppurtunities opened up for sci-fi fans.

I don't think you should have to support a film because you are hoping for something else. You should only see a film you think you will like and you should only see it again if you like it.

I remember when I used to "collect" Spiderman comics. Every comic that Spidey was in, I had to have. Then Marvel started releasing several titles based on the web shooter so every month I was forking out cash for several books....it adds up. Marvel knew this.

Same thing here. Don't fall for it. You don't have to "support" a director or a character. That's akin to admitting they have you on a hook.

Be sure to often ask yourself if you really like what your paying for and if it's worth it. If they are getting it wrong (Green Lantern) complain and move on. If you like Pacific Rim when it comes out, see it again. Del Toro is rich. He really, really doesn't need your support beyond paying for what you already like.

@pintoman a very wise statement. couldn't agree with you more. i guess when i say its "important" to suport film x i don't mean to do so blindly. its always out of passion for the projects and their quality. and i couldn't agree more the directors,studios,etc all don't need anymore money. i guess it comes from wanting smart and creative media to be so successful that we get more of it instead of more crap lol! its funny because i've always found its silly how bent out shape people get over their favorite movies box office return but then i still find myself following it simply because i find it interesting and fun
