A TRON Reboot Is In The Works With SUICIDE SQUAD Star Jared Leto Eyed To Star
Disney may have pulled the plug on Tron 3, but it doesn't look like they're done with the property yet as it's being reported that a reboot is in the works with Jared Leto potentially set to star!
The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Walt Disney Studios is currently in the very early stages of development on a Tron reboot, with Academy Award-winner Jared Leto attached to potentially star.
The reboot is anything but a sure thing as the studio continues to weigh their options in this early exploratory stage, but if they do decide to move forward (which seems increasingly likely) Justin Springer (Oblivion, Tron: Legacy) will produce alongside Leto and Leto's producing partner Emma Ludbrook (Great Wide Open, Into The Wild). No director or writer has been brought onboard just yet.
While the picture is not a direct sequel to the original 1982 classic or to its 2010 sequel, it will still draw inspiration from the now-scrapped script for Tron 3 and if Leto signs on, he would play Ares - an original character, who had a leading role in said script.
Following his Oscar-winning performance in Dallas Buyers Club, Leto tackled one of DC's most iconic villains, The Joker, last year in David Ayer's critically reviled Suicide Squad. He'll be seen next in Denis Villeneuve's Blade Runner 2049 this fall and also has two dramas on the docket with The Ousider and Berlin, I Love You.
