Shazam! Fury of the Gods was supposed to be released this Christmas, though that meant it would have been going head-to-head with Avatar: The Way of Water at the box office.
Something tells us that wouldn't have ended well for the sequel, and Warner Bros. made the wise decision to push the movie into 2023. Despite the disappointing delay, director David F. Sandberg celebrated Halloween by taking to Twitter to reveal that the movie is now officially finished.
With that, Shazam! Fury of the Gods is picture locked and ready to roll out into theaters next March. That means no more test screenings, though the entire plot of the Shazam! follow-up actually leaked several months ago. Many changes could have occurred since then, of course, including a possible tie-in with Black Adam.
As for this new look at the movie, we're sure you'll agree that's a downright electrifying shot of Billy Batson suited up!
Shazam! Fury of the Gods continues the story of teenage Billy Batson who, upon reciting the magic word "SHAZAM!," is transformed into his adult Super Hero alter ego, Shazam.
The sequel's cast includes Zachary Levi as Shazam, Asher Angel as Billy Batson, Jack Dylan Grazer as Freddy Freeman, Adam Brody as Super Hero Freddy, Ross Butler as Super Hero Eugene, Meagan Good as Super Hero Darla, D.J. Cotrona as Super Hero Pedro, Grace Caroline Currey as Mary Bromfield/Super Hero Mary.
Also returning are Faithe Herman as Darla Dudley, Ian Chen as Eugene Choi, Jovan Armand as Pedro Pena, Marta Milans as Rosa Vasquez, Cooper Andrews as Victor Vasquez, and Djimon Hounsou as Wizard. Joining the movie are Rachel Zegler, with Lucy Liu and Helen Mirren.
David F. Sandberg directs the film from a script by Henry Gayden and Chris Morgan. Shazam! Fury of the Gods is set to be released on March 17, 2023.
