SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME Producer Talks Potential Live-Action Miles Morales And Spider-Man Vs. Venom

It's been confirmed that Spider-Man will remain in the MCU, but producer Amy Pascal has now opened up on the other Marvel Universe, a possible clash with Venom, Miles Morales in live-action, and more.

Much to the delight of fans everywhere, Tom Holland's Peter Parker is set to stick around in the MCU for another trilogy following Spider-Man: No Way Home's release. Of course, Sony Pictures still has its own Marvel Universe that features characters like Venom, Morbius, and Kraven the Hunter, so what's the plan for that moving forward?

Talking to Fandango, veteran Spider-Man producer Amy Pascal addressed the difference. "Well, there's the Marvel Universe, which is one container and then there's the Spider-Verse movies, which are different and then there's the other universe where the Sony characters are in. We all are very respectful of each other and work together and make sure that we're only being additive."

Asked directly if fans should expect to see Holland's version of Spider-Man in a movie that's not connected to the MCU, Pascal cryptically responded with, "We all want to keep making movies together. How’s that for an answer?" It seems we'll remain in the dark about whether Sony plans to use the web-slinger in their villain-led movies. and what, if any, role Marvel Studios will play moving forward.

The site did push Pascal on the possibility of a live-action Miles Morales or a movie that pits Holland's Spider-Man against Tom Hardy's Venom, and it sounds like the door could be open.

"I would say there's so many things that we're going to be able to explore, but what we always have to do before we decide who the villain is going to be and what Spidey goes up against is what is the story we're telling about? You know? What's the Peter Parker story we're telling? What's the Miles Morales story that we're telling? But we always have to start with that. The good thing about these movies is as big as the canvas they take place on can be, they are always just stories about a kid."

It appears the future of Spider-Man on the big screen is something of an open book for now, though we're definitely excited by the possibilities. Before talking too much about what comes next, we're sure both studios want to share Spider-Man: No Way Home with the world, and it's entirely possible that movie will set the stage for the direction this next trilogy will take the wall-crawler in.

Spider-Man: No Way Home arrives in U.S. on December 17 and in the UK on December 15.

@Waddles - They probably want someone younger. Someone with a lot of shelf life.

I was thinking Miles Brown

@Waddles - How big is the age gap in the comics because the age gap in the games is roughly 8 years? Miles is 16 in Spider-man PS4 and Peter is 24.

Considering Tom's Spidey is 17 in Far From Home (not counting the
5 years he was dusted) either the age gap will be only 2 years or less or non existent.

So it sounds like "We tried to take back the Marvel Studios characters they helped create and do our own thing when we jumped ship but the fan base ripped us a new one and we know without Marvel Studios our movies wouldn't be good"

HeavyMetal4Life - 11/29/2021, 10:24 AM
@SonOfAGif - not quite, at least not for Amy Pascal. She is only in this for the money, from what I've been told, as she is only attached to movies that have Tom Holland's Peter Parker. When they stop making those movies, her involvement with Spider-man films will come to an end. So she has a really invested interest in making sure that these kinds of films and projects with Holland continue for as long as possible.

@SonOfAGif - But for Sony as a whole, yes that is exactly what it sounds like.

@SonOfAGif - That's not at all what happened. The internet started ripping Disney a new one once they realised that they were the ones stopping a new deal from being created. Disney was totally took the L over that whole situation.

With respect...

Feige told us from the beginning that this Spider-man would have 6 or more films as the approach was to develop him over a long haul like Harry Potter. All the nonsense regarding Tom's Spidey possibly being pulled from the MCU was pure negotiation tactics to better the deal by both sides, which considering Disney now gets a piece of the revenue that they weren't getting before imo gives them the W.

But regardless all of this was pre-planned.

Also, I watched Venom: Let There Be Carnage the other night for the first time, and my god, what a mediocre film. Sure, its slightly better than the first film. But what a mess. Just a hollow film that is just making the motions without having any real impact. Carnage as a character was fine, and looked alright I guess, but can't believe they killed him and Cassady off. Shriek was just wasted, same with some of the other human characters. First 45 minutes or so of the movie were boring with little of importance happening. Yeah, Andy Serkis was a better director, and I guess I'd be fine with him doing a sequel that has more of an involvement from Feige. But I also expected better from Serkis. This iteration of Venom just isn't what I want to see for this character.

@HeavyMetal4Life - I thought the beginning with Cletus and Shriek was hilarious. Like they didn't want to show the whole thing so they just made the characters mention that part of the plot.

I think that it's going to be harder to imagine Miles Morales taking over Peter Parker as the new Spider-Man or even just him having his own live-action movie, considering how much the MCU has taken from Miles's origin story and then given it to Peter's in an attempt to justify rebooting him AGAIN e.g. Stealing Ganke and giving him a different name, the whole proving himself as a Superhero to a mentor figure that's already an eshtablished hero, him going to a charter school for gifted children etc.

@Superspecialawesomeguy - To make things even out, they should give Peters story and friends to Miles.
OmegaDaGrodd
OmegaDaGrodd - 11/29/2021, 10:51 AM
@Superspecialawesomeguy - The vast majority of MCU characters have had minor to moderate changes to their backstory in order to fit the MCU, so I'm not sure why you guys keep talking about Miles like there's only one path to integrate him that the Spider-Man movies have closed off. Into The Spider-Verse was a great Miles movie that barely even featured Ganke and changed more than a few bits of Miles origins. Have some imagination

Superspecialawesomeguy
Superspecialawesomeguy - 11/29/2021, 11:24 AM
@OmegaDaGrodd - First of all I never said that it was impossible to introduce Miles or that it shouldn't be done, I just said that it would be harder; it could still be done but it'll be more difficult to considering a lot of his origin story was given to an already well-established character; it would be like if for example if introducing Bruce Banner for the first time for a MCU Hulk movie, they made Bruce Banner a lawyer who got his powers than through a blood transfusion who could also break the 4th wall and then AFTER that movie gets made, THEN making a She-Hulk Jennifer Walters movie and try to introduce her character.

p.s Hopefully that example made sense lol

There’s already a blueprint for doing Miles live action. Just do what the PS4 game did and introduce Miles as a non-powered side character from the same universe. It worked perfectly fine and gave time to show the mentor relationship between him and Peter and build his character before he gets his powers. I don’t dislike the traditional multiverse version of the story but I think him just being in the main continuity would work better
