The Amazing Spider-Man is the story of Peter Parker (Garfield), an outcast high schooler who was abandoned by his parents as a boy, leaving him to be raised by his Uncle Ben (Sheen) and Aunt May (Field). Like most teenagers, Peter is trying to figure out who he is and how he got to be the person he is today. Peter is also finding his way with his first high school crush, Gwen Stacy (Stone), and together, they struggle with love, commitment, and secrets. As Peter discovers a mysterious briefcase that belonged to his father, he begins a quest to understand his parents' disappearance - leading him directly to Oscorp and the lab of Dr Curt Connors (Ifans), his father's former partner. As Spider-Man is set on a collision course with Connors' alter-ego, The Lizard, Peter will make life-altering choices to use his powers and shape his destiny to become a hero.

I'm a guy and I'm not afraid to say it. They look cute together. I guess it was the cliche "love at first sight" for them. Good for them.

Also, I can't wait to see what they do for TASM 2. They really do connect well enough to make the gooey love story believable and not really all that corny.

@GUNSMITH I myself was the exact same way when I was 17 and talking to girls. It's just how some people react in certain situations. It's actually pretty frightening because you just worry about being judged the whole time.

I predict that Marc Webb is going to get really fat over the next few years. Like 2002 Peter Jackson fat.

I'm still so confused by the hate... what was so wrong with it?!?! The first act was weak in my mind but I have a lot of friends (some avid comic readers) who adore this movie. A few even like it more than avengers. I just don't understand.

This was the best Twilight movie ever! ...Now give this one back to Marvel and lets make a real CBM out of it.... And plz, no origin story... we´ve seen it!!!

i don't think some people know what the word "emo" means.

and, romance is not synonymous with twilight.
it's dumb to degrade a (literally) ancient genre to that state.

@Shua

For me there were too many WTF moments and it lacked as an origin story.

- Powers were not explained well which is the whole point of an origin story

- Wasted potential on the contrast between Connors and Peters evolution

- Peter came off as selfish and unlikeable: stands up for kids at school but treats Aunt May like dirt, rude to Cpt. Stacy, lies about the formula, and is cool with theft.

- Spider sense!!! He can catch a fly, dodge bullets at point blank range, catch a ball without looking but is oblivious to real danger like the Lizard above him or the LOUD-ASS helicopter that is coming round the corner?

- The conflict and villain were boring, never once did I wonder what is Connors up to or where is the Lizard.

- Those cheesy scenes Webb filmed: football post bend, Peter's sticking to the ceiling in public and no one finds it odd, the Spider-dunk.

- For intellectual characers they weren't very inquisitive about the whole Spider-Man issue. You'd think Peter would be worried about mutating given what happened to Connors and Fred. You'd think Connors would be interested in a successful cross species subject that has no visible mutation. You'd also think that Oscorp would have tighter security than that keypad thing and grad students as interns.

The acting and choreography were better than Spider-Man but that movie shouldn't even be the standard. We've had brilliant performances in First Class, Iron Man, Thor, Batman etc, so I expect good acting in a CBM. The romance was cute but over played when there was so much additional stuff to set up in this world.

Overall the story was generic and it felt like they just switched out characters from the old movie and remade it.

AND the moral of Spider-Man was lost. With Great Power comes Great responsibility, close movie with hero being irresponsible? Doesn't work for me.

Hopefully the sequel will improve

@DangerStranger

Bruce Willis in Unbreakable simply bench pressed to test the limits of his strengths. It worked fine. Spidey can bend posts with a ball, why didn't he just throw stuff at the Lizard?

His powers come as an instinct which is cool but why is the Spider sense such a fail? If you have no prior knowledge of the character this movie depicts it as effective only for mild annoyances

You can't tell me that Jackie Chan slapstick train bit wasn't facepalm inducing, especially when later he runs from those thugs.

Speaking of kids movies whose idea was it to have flashing external web-shooters, really? He's not some video game end level boss
