RUMOR: JASON BOURNE Star Matt Damon Passes On The Main Villain Role In The SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING Sequel
It sounds like Marvel and Sony have been actively casting the upcoming Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel, but according to a new report, the studios may have struck out on their first choice for the villain.

Hot on the heels of that Jessica Chastain story comes another hot rumor, this time about the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Jeff Sneider, of The Tracking Board, has seemingly revealed who Marvel Studios & Sony Pictures were potentially eyeing for the lead villain role in the upcoming Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel.
According to Sneider, Academy Award-winner Matt Damon (Jason Bourne) was Marvel & Sony's top choice for the villain in the 2019 sequel, but unfortunately, it appears as though he's passed on the part. There weren't any further details on what the role could've been, but with the studios potentially working on setting up the Sinister Six for the inevitable Homecoming 3, it could've been literally anyone from Spidey's illustrious rogues' gallery, including, but not limited to, the Green Goblin, Mysterio, Hobgoblin, Kraven the Hunter, Sandman, Doctor Octopus, Electro, Chameleon, and more. However, considering we have seen a number of those baddies already in other films, we can probably safely rule out more than a few of them.
Outside of cameos in Unsane and Ocean's 8, Damon doesn't really have anything lined up on his schedule this year and could definitely benefit from signing on for a role in a surefire blockbuster after the disappointing critical and commercial receptions for Suburbicon, Downsizing, and The Great Wall. While he did have an uncredited cameo in Taika Waititi's Thor: Ragnarok, his last hit actually came in 2016 with the action sequel Jason Bourne ($415.4M), which followed his Academy Award-nominated performance in 2015's The Martian ($630.1M).
While we don't know who the studios may be eyeing next, let's just hope history manages to repeat itself with Damon since if you can remember, Michael Keaton also passed on playing the Vulture initially before resuming talks and then, signing on. He ultimately went on to deliver an absolutely standout performance in the Jon Watts-directed blockbuster last summer.

With CinemaCon just around the corner (where yours truly will be in attendance), we'll probably know a lot more relatively soon. Stay tuned into CBM for the latest as it breaks.
