KRAVEN THE HUNTER Reportedly Circling ZOLA Actress Taylour Paige To Play Calypso

We recently learned that Jodie Turner-Smith wasn't in the running to play the villainous Calypso in Kraven the Hunter after all, but a new report claims that Taylour Paige (Zola) is now being courted.

As Sony Pictures' Kraven the Hunter movie continues to round out its cast, we have an update on which actress the studio could be courting to play Calypso.

We first learned that the Marvel Comics villain would be a part of the Spider-Man spinoff when a rumor swirled that Jodie Turner-Smith (Without Remorse, Queen and Slim) was being courted for the role, but the trades recently confirmed that no deal was struck. Now, The Illuminerdi is reporting that Taylour Paige (Zola, Ma Rainey's Black Bottom) is in line to play the character.

In the comics, Calypso Ezili was a ruthless voodoo priestess who is actually the one responsible for giving Kraven his enhanced abilities. The two became lovers shortly after, and Calypso often fuelled The Hunter's hatred of Spider-Man, convincing him never to lose sight of his prey. After cheating death many times, she was seemingly killed off for good in the late '90s.

How she'll be depicted in Kraven remains to be seen, but there's always a chance the murderous villain will be tweaked a little for her live-action debut.

Aaron Taylor Johnsen will play the titular anti-hero, with Russell Crowe on board in an undisclosed role (possibly Kraven's father). White Lotus breakout Fred Hechinger recently joined the cast as Chameleon.

J.C. Chandor (Triple Frontier; A Most Violent Year) will direct from a screenplay from Art Marcum and Matt Holloway (Iron Man; Uncharted) and Richard Wenk (The Equalizer; Jack Reacher: Never Go Back).

I still can't believe they're making this moving lol. Kraven is an interesting antagonist or side character, he really isn't meant to be the main guy in a story imo.

@JustAChillFan - My thoughts exactly with every Sony-Spidey villain movie.

Oh. My. God. Who cares??

What fans really wanted was to see MCU Kraven hunt Holland’s Spider-Man and now we can’t get that because Sony is using him in a (likely) sh*tty solo movie.

They can’t even use him in a multiverse movie (which would be a crap consolation prize) because you went and cast the actor who played Quicksilver.

Sony…always one step forward and fifteen back.

All i know is that that one McFarlane comic with her getting revenge on spidey for kraven's death (Spiderman: Torment) was a visual feast.

As for how I think Kraven should have been incorporated into the next MCU spidey movie, this guy had an interesting pitch that I really could see happen down the line. I especially love the dark moment he came up with that Peter gets buried under May's tombstone and that's when he first dons the black suit

Everything there isn't a Maguire or Garfield returning announcement, I just keel rolling me eyes. Without a Spider-Man, these movies lose about 90% of its appeal in my opinion

As much as I think this movie is a weird (possibly bad idea) it does sound more and more interesting. Can't wait for Morbius so we can finally learn which universe these movies take place in.
Hope it's Garfield's universe. Would be so cool (and totally worth it) if he appeared in a supporting role in this movie.

They're really gonna turn Kraven into a Rambo/Jack Reacher mix and probably have him get help from some animals like he's Tarzan or Dr Doolittle. This is gonna be hilariously blasphemous
