MADAME WEB's Infamous Trailer Line Isn't Actually Said In The Movie; New Posters Released

After all that ridicule and all those memes, it turns out the infamous "he was in the Amazon" line from the Madame Web trailer is never said in the actual movie...

The embargo lifted for Madame Web reviews earlier today, and while critics were not very impressed (to say the least), there are bound to be at least a few fans whowill  go see Sony Pictures' latest SMU entry for entertainment value alone.

Unfortunately, those hoping to experience the infamous “He was in the Amazon with my mom when she was researching spiders right before she died” line from the trailer with an audience will be disappointed to learn that this exact dialogue is never spoken in the actual movie.

According to Vulture, "only four of the 17 words in the trailer are uttered together: 'She was researching spiders.' As you might suspect, it sounds far more natural this way." You may not see this as a big deal, but after Morbius memes took on a life of their own, there were certain to be at least a few people looking forward to hearing the line in a packed theater.

Speaking of which, the latest box office updates predict Madame Web should take in around $22 million to $25 million between Wednesday and President’s Day on Monday - although that Rotten Tomatoes score (it's now dropped to 18%) could well bring it in even lower.

Check out two new posters below.

Dakota Johnson stars as the clairvoyant Cassandra Webb, who uses her abilities to save a group of young woman, played by Sydney Sweeney, Isabela Merced, and Celeste O’Connor, from a villainous Spider-Man lookalike known as Ezekiel Simms.

The girls Webb is doing her best to keep safe, Julia Carpenter, Mattie Franklin and Anya Corazón, are all destined to become heroes with Spider-like powers of their own, and Simms is targetting them because of what they do to him in the future.

Sony also has a third Venom movie slated for Nov. 8, 2024, and Kraven the Hunter, starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson, coming on Aug. 30, 2024. El Muerto, which was set to star Bad Bunny, has reportedly been dropped from the schedule.

"'Meanwhile, in another universe...'" reads the official synopsis, "In a switch from the typical genre, Madame Web tells the standalone origin story of one of Marvel publishing's most enigmatic heroines." "The suspense-driven thriller stars Dakota Johnson as Cassandra Webb, a paramedic in Manhattan who may have clairvoyant abilities. Forced to confront revelations about her past, she forges a relationship with three young women destined for powerful futures...if they can all survive a deadly present."

S.J. Clarkson, who also helmed Marvel’s Jessica Jones and The Defenders, directs from a script by Matt Sazama, Kerem Sazama and Burk Sharpless. Adam Merims executive produced.

Madame Web will swing into theaters on Feb. 14, 2024.
