Natalie "Arachne" Mendoza Quits Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark!

The actress, who plays the villainess Arachne in the troubled Broadway show, has decided to walk away from the production following the numerous mishaps that it's been plagued by...

The 30-year-old actress is apparently negotiating an exit deal with producers of the musical. Mendoza actually sustained a concussion on at the end of November when she was struck in the head by a rope holding a piece of equipment as she stood off stage. Though she returned three days later, she took another two weeks off after having nausea and a headache following her performance that consisted of flying sequences where she was spun upside-down.

Arachne is a key character in the show and, aside from singing the musuical's title number, she figures prominently in at least five other songs and several high-flying stunt sequences, including the one in which she's spun upside-down as mentioned above.

With a budget of $65 million (and counting) this is yet another disaster for the troubled show that have previously included aerialist Kevin Aubin broke both his wrists, another actor broke his foot, Chris Tierney, fell 30 feet into the orchestra pit when a cable snapped and required back surgery for his injuries. Not to mention the poor reviews the show got during preview showings.

Not good for the most expensive Broadway show in history, huh?

Also, I just realized (imdb'd) this is Juno from The Descent. She definitely deserves better than this show/failure.

Haven't commented in a while. Hope you all enjoyed your holiday.

@Gunsmith DAMN! Not for long!

This news reminds me of my last relationship. She was a Broadway geek and I was a comic book geek. It started off great and the idea of us getting married was thrown around. What happened next was an epic fail. Just like this show has shown us, you can't mix these two worlds together. Maybe in a play form like the much anticipated Batman production, but not in musical form. I worked at Urinetown the musical and that was a great show that spoofed a lot of shows. Turn off the Dark is going to be the cause of a lot of spoofs and take our beloved hero down a sad road. Don't see this show. Boycott it. Did you guys see the footage of when that actor fell down the pit? I have to admit I laughed my ass off but that poor bastard actually got hurt! Back surgery hurt! Maybe the show is cursed. The sick thing is I kinda want to see more bloodshed lol

They really should put and end to this disaster, I think it was a bad idea to start with.

Wow, Natalie is amazingly beautiful and a good actress. I wonder why she's not a big name star, she sure as hell should be! Loved her in The Decent (1&2).

this is a sign to maybe just pay the actors and get out while they still can, before a law suit comes in. the idea of a spiderman broadway show should have been a big enough STOP sign to scrap the idea.

I can't believe they wasted 65 million on this failure.

They need to "Turn Off" the goddamn play before someone gets killed! The injuries are getting progressively worse, broken wrists>concussion>falling 30 feet...[frick]'s sake people are only going in hopes something will happen! Forget "Don't play with fire," for this play it should be "Don't throw grenades into a grenade pit"

@StevilNYC

I'm afraid you're absolutely right. As if Spider-Man's reputation wasn't tarnished enough with the god-awful Spider-Man films that depict Peter Parker as a pussy cry-baby with nothing better to do except shed tears all day. Now this musical is going to sink Spider-Man's reputation even lower. But if Batman can rise from what was seemingly the point of no return, I believe Spider-Man can too....

She melts my butter. I get all weak in the stems just looking at her. Juno...is still one of my favorite characters ever.

This departure cannot hurt her career...but the stigma attached to this thing may haunt her. It is quite a train wreck of a production and a steaming turd of one at that.

this show is a travesty. It should be locked away in a vault and kept secret in the deepest pits of hell. @tazmaniak : dammit they're even gonna make a spider DANCE?!!! I'm sending a succubus to bite that bitch Taymor's head off.
