It has one of the best release dates of the year in US. People will show up. If it's good, it will most definitely have legs. Plenty of time before TDKR. And even then, it could do solid business. Overseas, with Euro 2012 ending early July, just in time when this opens, I think it will do huge numbers.

I actually think it has a better release date than TDKR. It has the holiday weekend to rake in cash and for some reason there are ten million things going on the weekend of TDKR release in my world. I actually will be in Chicago that weekend with my son but many other people I know are either traveling that weekend or attending concerts or theater performances. July 20 seems to be a busy weekend.

I think any movie that comes out anywhere around TDKR is going to financially get humiliated if they're still in theaters while TDKR is. It doesn't really matter when TDKR comes out, its going to violate anything it competes with.

@CPBUFF22 and so is the weekend of july 4th, bud.

@PreparationH - I been invited by 14 different people to go see TASM on 4th weekend. People have extra time off work and there are a bunch of BBQ & Firework displays I been invited to that in no way force me to travel out of town or limit the time I can have a the theater.

When I say that July 20th and the weekend following seems busy I am talking concerts and events in Chicago, Detroit, Indianapolis, Cleveland, & Milwaukee that have a large number of people who I know leaving the state that weekend. It doesn't necessary mean that they wont see TDKR in one of the other cities just seems unlikely when there are so many other things to do.

@CPBuff22 Holy hell, that sure is a lot of people inviting you to a movie a month away, that's interesting. I live in philly, and usually it's a popular weekend for a ton of people to go to the shore, six flags, & camping and shit. some peeps I know up in NY got some fairs and concerts they'll be going to that week as well.

But those are only certain areas, same where you live. I don't think any of the that will actually put a major dent in either box office.

Wait, people invite you guys to movies? You mean you don't just sit with strangers and pretend they are your friends? Huh. Weird. :P

Durf,
Oh, I think that Spider-Man will do fantastic hence the timely release date it has, on top of the amount of time it has until TDKR is released. And as you said, it's a well known character (and the movie itself looks good) You misunderstand, my comment wasn't a hit against Spider-Man, I was implying that as much success at it will have, it will unfortunately get derailed when TDKR comes out. By July 20th everyone would have time to go watch Spiderman twice, so they did a good job of releasing it the 3rd.

But theoretically: Do I believe that if they came out at the same time they would both take a mean hit financially? Yes, any one with a brain would. Im just saying, if that was the occasion, TDKR would definitely come out on top, by a lot

@PreparationH I think Avengers has sparked peoples interest in Marvel again. I couldn't get ANYONE to go to the Midnight showing with me. That being said I seen if a total of FOUR times the first week because after it hit big that weekend everyone was like "I don't want to go alone, I'll buy you a ticket" and of course I was fine with that arrangement. Now I got a bunch of people wanting to see TASM opening weekend. I am pretty sure I'll take my son to the Midnight IMAX showing though.

I just hope this doesn't bomb because of the people that are too loyal to the Raimi franchise that think the reboot is stupid.

July is the month my dream comes true: Spider-Man vs Batman! I can't wait

We also have to remember that The Amazing Spider-Man comes off more child friendly, kids seem to be more attracted to Spider-Man than towards the Nolan version of Batman, Maybe it is too dark, but kids I know are all excited for Spider-Man. So even if TASM were to get derailed by TDKR, TASM would still be generating a lot just off of kids, I don't know about you but when kids go to movies it seems to be in packs... I wish both movies success, because after all, they are Comic Book Movies.

Yeah thats a great point, parents will definitely rather take their kids to see Spiderman. I didn't think about that. WB is doing a great job of making toys and children books about Bane to attract kids as well, still though, this is in no way shape or form a movie for kids, no matter how many Catwoman pop-up books they make.

TDK was like... bleeding edge PG-13

"I said that because alot of people will be looking at TDKR right around the corner and will save their money for that."

Hmm...are people that broke they can't afford a $5 matinee movie? I work in the nonprofit sector, so I am not rolling in the dough, but I certainly don't have to choose between what two big CBM's I want to see.

I will say that 4th of July isn't the greatest opening weekend as I see it. People are going to the lake, bbq'ing and doing outdoor things. Sitting at a movie theater on 4th of July weekend has no appeal to me. I generally go a few weeks after release anyway to avoid the crowds.

Is it just me or does Spidey do a whole lot of walking and running in this film. Am I alone in thinking the car thief scene would have worked better if Spidey delivered his lines crouched on top of a car rather than walking up to the perp? He could have hopped down to do his web thing but it just seemed odd that he would just kind of stroll up like that...

Hella looking forward to the movie, just thought this was a bit odd...

i saw the trailer at my local cinema today. WTF? it started off as an action piece then cut to an awkward overlong romance scene, then some comedy, then back to the action, which to be honest didnt surpass anything done in the previous incarnation. it didnt seem to know who it was target audience was so threw chick flick, comedy and action elements together to appeal to any one they could. I was lookin forward to this bein a huge spidey fan but the trailer left me with the feeling that this is just a rebooted cashcow.
