INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE Director Doesn't Think Peter Parker Needs Another Mentor In SPIDER-MAN 3

The Marvel Cinematic Universe's Peter Parker is big on father figures, but Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse director Peter Ramsey makes a case for why the hero doesn't need another mentor in Spider-Man 3.

It made sense for Iron Man to play a role in Spider-Man: Homecoming, especially as Sony Pictures was looking to increase interest in the rebooted franchise and drive up the movie's box office takings.

In Spider-Man: Far From Home - which took place after the events of Avengers: Endgame and Tony Stark's death - Peter Parker found himself a new father figure in Quentin Beck, a decision which made sense considering the web-slinger was grieving and easily influenced by Mysterio.

It's been reported that in Spider-Man 3, the hero will find a new "mentor" in the form of Benedict Cumberbatch's Doctor Strange, a decision which has caused some fans to roll their eyes that Peter still isn't going to be standing on his own two feet. Those sentiments have now been shared by Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse director Peter Ramsey on Twitter.

"I hope he's just a 'special guest star,'" the filmmaker said, referring to the Sorcerer Supreme. He'd later add that, "one of the things I always liked in the old comics was that he was a loner, grappling with things on his own, not beloved or accepted like the Avengers or the [Fantastic Four]."

Do you agree that Spider-Man should be a loner in the Marvel Cinematic Universe moving forward?
