SPIDER-MAN: Andrew Garfield Optimistic About Return; Says Clash With Tom Hardy's VENOM Is "Cool Idea"

After months of denials (even when footage of him on set leaked online), Andrew Garfield is finally able to discuss his return as Peter Parker in Spider-Man: No Way Home. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 may have underwhelmed in 2014, but fans have responded extremely positively to the actor suiting up again, and #MakeTASM3 continues to sporadically trend on social media.

That overwhelming support hasn't been lost on Garfield, and in an interview with Happy Sad Confused's Josh Horowitz, he expressed his gratitude to fans for the nice things they've been saying. "I will say this: that love permeates. That love has reached me. The enjoyment of people in theaters has reached me and it's very touching and deeply moving," he admitted.

"When we finished my second Spider-Man film, it petered out. There was a disjointedness there, so for me coming back and getting more time to have fun with and to give the character some closure and to play and be the version of Spider-Man I was always wanting to get to, and to be with Tobey [Magure] and Tom [Holland] and everybody in the movie, that was healing."

After mentioning the amazing critical and commercial response to Spider-Man: No Way Home, Garfield went on to confirm he does hope to play Peter Parker again after making his MCU debut. "In terms of moving forward with the character, I am definitely open to that. It would have to be something very unique, very special, and of service to the audience and the character."

"I think there's something playful and unique and odd and unexpected to be done," he continued. "I'm not sure it is, but if we can figure it out, that would be so much fun." When it was pointed out that there's a lot of chatter surrounding his Spider-Man crossing paths and battling Tom Hardy's Venom, Garfield responded by simply saying, "That's a cool idea."

He later added that "I'd also love to continue working with Tobey and Tom," but admitted "It's hard to want more right now" as he's so grateful and satisfied with Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Fans have made it clear to Sony that they want to see Holland's Spider-Man remain in the MCU, and there's definitely a vocal fanbase that now wants Garfield to take centre stage in "Sony's Spider-Man Universe" (the world movies like Venom: Let There Be Carnage and Morbius take place in).

Are you hoping to see more of Garfield's Spider-Man?

The response has been overwhelmingly positive, too much for even Sony to ignore. I suspect he'll be back. Hopefully in the capcity of leading his own standalone, rather than another addition to someone else's movie.

@incredibleTalk - Oh for sure, but I hope they support his arc, like he did with Hollands Spider-Man.

@UniqNo - I've said it before and I'll say it again, Sony has weirdly accidentally stumbled into what they always wanted here. It would be foolish to not capitalize on it.

Part of what sunk the Garfield series was that they were trying so hard to do their own shared-universe multi-spin-off franchise with Spider-Man and his supporting characters. It compromised the TASM movies because they got chopped up so bad for the sake of advertising future instalments.

But now here, they have the opportunity. Love or hate Venom, that series has been successful. Holland in the MCU is of course huge, Tobey has always had and continues to have a lot of love, Garfield's gotten an overwhelmingly positive reception in light of NWH, and now they've established the "multiverse" and "Spider-Verse" as a thing in mainline live action films.

Like, you now have 3 Spider-Men who are all the proper age to carry their own movies and have their own distinctive flair that people like and have demonstrated that they want to see more of. Honestly go for it, Sony. Let's get a new Tobey flick, let's get a new Garfield flick. Let's get Garfield/Hardy going. They can make these 3-Way Spider-Man movies their own answer to the "Avengers" style team-up movies.

You don't want to do it TOO much of course, but there's room to really capitalize on this and they should strike while the iron is hot.

Hey @Jeight8, long time no see, buddy!

Tell me, how assblasted ARE YOU that Eternals was rotten despite all those perfect screenings that your "inside sources" told you?

@Doomsday8888 - those inside sources were all over twitter and they had been right before. I never claimed exclusive knowledge.

Also do you really wanna talk about Rotten cb movies? I hear DC has plenty of them. Might in fact have more Rotten than fresh last time I checked.

Stay mad about what exactly?

You cannot paint me as a DC fanboy out of convenience when i LITERALLY started this mini thread making fun (in good sport) of DC.

Just how out of touch can one man be????
Jeight8
Jeight8 - 1/17/2022, 12:43 PM
@Doomsday8888 - well, you thought I would care about a single mcu movie being Rotten, so out of touch seems to suit you.

Eheheh, that's the lie you tell yourself in order to sleep at night, buddy but it ain't gonna work on us! :P

Why else bring-up certain shit in random ass topics?
Only someone who cares about this shit would do that, one who'd be mad as hell rn, which you clearly are, hence that pointless jab at me, which you started, mind you! :D

Jeight8 - 1/17/2022, 1:01 PM
@Doomsday8888 - mad as hell for what? I liked the movie LMAO.

The only I'm mad is that you and others will start dogpilling certain actors once certain movie start promotion. That was my original reply until you brought up Eternals for some reason lmao.

Doomsday8888 - 1/17/2022, 1:06 PM
@Jeight8
You are just a coward, that's why.

No wonder you went MIA when Eternals was out and talked MAD shit about both Eternals and The Batman (in a bad way) before the RT score was out.

Listen man, everyone here knows your m.o. you're full of shit and the LAST person to point finger at someone when everythings is reduced to a pathetic ass Marvel vs. DC with you, that's why you remember my comments, that's why you are assblasted, that's why EVERYONE here looooves you, am i rite??? :D

You will never stop me from saying the things i want to say, no matter if i show love or "hatred" toward your precious Marvel.
Jeight8
Jeight8 - 1/17/2022, 1:45 PM
@Doomsday8888 - I went Mia due to health issues genius. I wasn't even commenting that much before eternals comes out anyway.

Stop you? No, I'm merely calling out the bs of how macho you are behind a keyboard. It's so easy isn't it?

Doomsday8888
Doomsday8888 - 1/17/2022, 2:08 PM
@Jeight8
Convenient but i'll take it.

I actually have no beef with you and eventhough i find your pathetic hatred toward DC annoying mostly the way you wish something to fail, i actually don't waste my time with users like you, whereas you should really grow a pair if you can't handle my comments.

Anyway, it is what it is, can't change human nature, we'll see what happens in March.

Covid willing.

Really hope we get an Amazing Spider-Man 3 movie (not with the original plan) with Spider-Gwen AND seperate appearancse in the Kraven and third Venom movies.

It's not brought up here, but I don't really wanna see the Felicia/Black Cat storyline. Can just go with Black Cat whispering in his ear that made him stop pulling punches again.
McMurdo
McMurdo - 1/17/2022, 11:35 AM
@bkmeijer - He’s just a far better Parker and Spidey than Holland. Keep Holland for the MCU if you must and let Garfield interact with Spider Gwen from a different verse and expand with him as your lead
bkmeijer2
bkmeijer2 - 1/17/2022, 11:41 AM
@McMurdo - I think Tobey us still my favorite Peter Parker, but Garfield is definitely the better Spider-Man.

Even as Peter Parker though, I think Garfield can do a great job. Especially opposite Emma Stone's Spider-Gwen. There is great material there for both.

@bkmeijer - between the three of them, I see Andrew's Peter Parker/Spiderman is the most spiderman ever.his banter, wise-cracking, jokes are on point just like the peter parker we know from the comic book.
