Spider-Man: No Way Home will see Peter Parker forced to take on a sinister cabal of villains pulled from different realities. As moviegoers, we already know those bad guys from the Spider-Man and Amazing Spider-Man film franchises, and the hope is that the wall-crawler will receive a helping hand from some other Spideys in taking down the likes of Doctor Octopus and Electro.
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse first introduced us to the idea of multiple Spider-Men teaming up, but Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige was quick to tell Empire (via CBR) that there's no competition between the animated and live-action franchises. "Spider-Verse helped to popularize the conceit of multiple universes with different characters in them," he explained. "But it's not about competing, necessarily. It's about telling your own story."
Addressing the fallout from Spider-Man: Far From Home, Feige explained where we find Peter Parker in this sequel. "We knew we were forcing ourselves to deal with his identity being revealed. Now we see how his senior year is thrown into utter chaos."
That leads to Spidey seeking Doctor Strange's help in once again hiding his secret identity from the world, and producer Amy Pascal believes these different realities were crucial to exploring the hero's new status quo. "The Multiverse was a good way for us to explore the problem of him becoming known to everyone," she teases. "Peter opens Pandora's box. And that's what the Multiverse is."
That mention of Pandora's Box is interesting, as plot leaks have indicated that's exactly what the returning villains will find themselves trapped in courtesy of Doctor Strange. That artefact Peter and the Sorcerer Supreme appear to be fighting over in the trailer could be a literal Pandora's Box, rather than a metaphorical one; it all depends on how you read Pascal's comments.
