SINISTER SIX Movie Would Have Included SPIDER-MAN; May Still Happen With Marvel Studios

One of the main reasons Drew Goddard's planned Sinister Six movie was so divisive came down to the fact that the plan was for it to apparently focus solely on the villains, but the filmmaker has now confirmed that Peter Parker would have had a leading role...

When Spider-Man joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe earlier this year, no one really gave a damn about the fact that Sinister Six and Venom were indefinitely shelved. However, it's beginning to sound like we may have missed out on something special with the former, a movie which was set to be directed by Drew Goddard. When io9 caught up with The Martian writer recently, he confirmed that it would have been a standalone movie set in The Amazing Spider-Man Universe which would have very much featured Andrew Garfield's Peter Parker in a leading role.

"My vision of that movie was a summer annual," Goddard explained to the site. "So you didn’t have to worry about continuity. It was just, ‘We take Peter, put him on an adventure, we put him back in his life.’ I intentionally wanted a movie that didn’t have to worry about mythology and continuity. It was important to me to make a movie that could stand on its own. So the good news is, you know, [laughs], it slots in very well to any plan anybody ever wants. We just need to let a couple years go by, I think." While the script would no doubt need to be retooled to fit into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it sounds like it could fit into Marvel and Sony's future plans if they're interested. For what's it's worth, Goddard - no doubt disappointed about not getting to make Sinister Six - is very much on board with Kevin Feige's plans for Spider-Man.

"The tricky part about all this is I love this plan. I love that you get to see Spider-Man in Marvel movies. I think that’s a great thing. I’m on board with that decision because as a fan that’s what I want. So who knows what the future holds? This is Hollywood, man, you’ve gotta play the long game." If it happens with Marvel Studios then it would be good. Sony [frick]ed up Spidey big time.

I'd be fine with it if it's a Spider-Man movie that has the Sinister Six as the villains.

Sure would be nice if somebody at Fox would say "I love that you get to see the Fantastic Four in Marvel movies."

Wishful thinking, at least at this point.

Goddard was the only creative involved at Sony that had any common sense. I would actually like to see this come to fruition down the line. Make it the finale of the marvel/Spidey trilogy and it could be great.

And keep Venom/Carnage the hell out of it. We need villains that are as interesting and well rounded as Peter or else no one will care.

I say YES!

But PLEASE...PLEASE...PLEASE take out the part that involved Spidey getting rid of his Symbiote suit all because he was getting (gulp) teased by the antagonistic members of the Sinister Six group.

That's just a huge NO!.

Other than that, it would be a great way to breath so much life into tons of antagonist at once. Spider-Man's universe can be just as big as the Avengers universe all on it's own if it's orchestrated correctly. These next films will have to seriously consider the pros of continuity and how they can avoid those cons. If it's true that the upcoming Spider-Man movies are said to be just as significant as the Harry Potter trilogy we're talking infinite amounts of directions that they can go for this franchise.

Nobody gives a [frick] about a Sinister Six movie especially when the only Spidey villains on the big screen so far have been Goblins and Doc Ock.

Also Venom/Eddie Brock is a shitty character.

@TheRealRemyLebeau Dude, you're a joke. I've read all your comments today so far and all you're doing is being a divisive troll ass hat.

Sony was a trendsetter with the Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2 and Warner/DC were trend setters with Batman Begins and The Dark Knight.

Marvel have been trend setters with the connected universe thing, Iron Man and the Avengers. All other Marvel movies have been on par, still amazing, but definitely not trendsetting.

Learn the definition of 'trend setting' before you use it. You're making a complete ass out of yourself.

Really getting tired of this kind of shit.

Spidey is at Sony.....

He can be used in Marvel Studios films but Sony has the final say on directions of Spidey films.

The beauty of having a young Spidey now is that he can grow in the role and do more than three films, which will allow us to see a larger selection of the great Spidey villains. A Sinister Six film will only be embraced by the general audience if Spidey has an integral part in it, so I am glad we aren't going to see Sony's take on it.

The Sinister Six sounds like a group the Avengers could take on in a follow-up to Infinity War.

Just saying.

Although I would imagine Marvel has the Secret Invasion storyline on deck for that film?

I still have no idea where the Avengers go after IW.

Shocker should be the villain in the reboot.

Colorful character, not a mob boss (like Marvel and Sony would allow that in a Spidey film).

And most important not a damn scientist. Near every [frick]ing Spidey villain has been a scientist.

Norman Osborn, Doc Ock, Harry twice, Lizard, Electro.

It's getting [frick]ing boring.

I never liked the idea of an Sinister Six movie without SM. To me it doesnt make sense. Sony could use the diretion that Marvel will provide and give us a proper SMU (SpiderMan Movie Universe)

@LEVITIKUZ - the cool thing now about Spidey in the MCU is the fact that he could go up against some powered people. So you wanting shocker is not far off. Especially now with the terrigen shit all over the world, it's much more likely now that we'll be getting powered "inhuman" baddies.

the time of evil scientists are coming to an end hahahaha
