THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 Title And Synopsis Revealed; Colm Feore And Paul Giamatti Join Cast

Well, it seems as if Spider-Man will be neither "Spectacular" or "Sensational" in the upcoming sequel! A press release seemingly reveals that it will instead go by The Amazing Spider-Man 2. We also have the first synopsis and confirmation that both Colm Feore And Paul Giamatti will star.

Disappointingly, it seems as if the sequel to The Amazing Spider-Man will simply be called The Amazing Spider-Man 2. The following press release was issued by Sony Pictures to mark the start of filming on the Marc Webb helmed follow-up and while it's possible that the title will indeed still change, this is the first time we have actually seen the movie referred to officially by this name. Regardless, it still offers up a brief synopsis for the movie and confirms that Paul Giamatti has joined the cast. However, who is Colm Feore playing? Could he be our Norman Osborn?!

New York, February 5, 2013 – Columbia Pictures announced today that filming has begun on The Amazing Spider-Man™ 2 in New York. The film is the first in the history of the franchise that will be filmed entirely in New York City and New York State.

The sequel to last year’s critical and box office hit The Amazing Spider-Man, the film stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Jamie Foxx, Shailene Woodley, Dane DeHaan, Colm Feore, Paul Giamatti, and Sally Field.

In The Amazing Spider-Man™ 2, for Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield), life is busy – between taking out the bad guys as Spider-Man and spending time with the person he loves, Gwen (Emma Stone), high school graduation can’t come quickly enough. Peter hasn’t forgotten about the promise he made to Gwen’s father to protect her by staying away – but that’s a promise he just can’t keep. Things will change for Peter when a new villain, Electro (Jamie Foxx), emerges, an old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, and Peter uncovers new clues about his past.

The film is directed by Marc Webb from a screenplay by Alex Kurtzman & Roberto Orci & Jeff Pinkner, with a previous draft by James Vanderbilt, and based on the Marvel Comic Book by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko. Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach are the producers.

The film’s key behind-the-scenes team includes director of photography Dan Mindel, production designer Mark Friedberg, editors Pietro Scalia and Elliot Graham, and costume designer Deborah L. Scott.

The latest chapter in the Spider-Man story is set for release in 3D on May 2, 2014.

STARRING:

Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker/Spider-Man
Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy
Shailene Woodley as Mary Jane Watson
Jamie Foxx as Max Dillon/Electro
Sally Fields as Aunt May

RELEASE DATE: May 2nd, 2014.

they just got off to such an awful start, it seems like they're scrambling to throw every possible spider-character in the marvel universe in this film.

btw @wolverinesfury

that's a damn good guess about who feore could be playing. i can totally see that now. very nice call.

I love The Amazing Spider-Man and I like the fact that they are keeping the title. I believe that Marc, Andrew and this cast can keep going building the Spider-Man world for more than just a trilogy, and I have a feeling the gloves are off for this sequel. My most anticipated film besides The Avengers 2 by far.

Cinema Blend's Sean O'Connel has been speculating something about a Webb's cryptic tweet that I'll post in a few moments, make sure to check it out.

@CaptainObvious

He's a teenager who looked at the promise, decided that not being with Gwen was making him unhappy, and after some prodding from Aunt May, decided that he was capable of being with -and- protecting her. He's a 17 year old kid in these movies; and that age, you think you're indestructible and in control of things you truly have no control over. He's in over his head doing this, and he will pay the consequences for it, because now he'll be especially liable when Gwen dies.
They're really making "Great Power and Responsibility" a developing character arc with these movies.

Trolls are out......idk liked the first more then Raimi's, but everyone likes different things. I would have preferred they use different comic title names throughout this series, instead of # 2.

The worst part of the film for me was how they changed Captain Stacy. Captain Stacy always defended Spiderman and his last words to Peter was to actually take care of Gwen, not what was said in the movie.

They probably want to call it TASM2 so they won't confuse people into thinking it's a remake. Yeah people are that stupid. Spider-Man, The Amazing Spider-Man, Spectacular Spider-Man, etc. It's not really a good way of forming things. And doing, Spider-Man: Spider in a Storm is a bad idea as well.

@WombRaider

Marc Webb is one of the best directors of this new generation. Trust me, there's something happening with the Spider-Man franchise, and I believe Sony will give the keys of the Spidey World to Webb and let him go wild.

Gripe because Spider-man 3 was bloated and crappy. Now gripe because we've seen an origin story before. If they did start in the middle you would gripe because they didn't start with a solid origin story. Geez, I would hate to be the one making comic book movies. I am afraid I would say screw the 5% population of fanboys who bitch all the time and make the movie that I wanted and stayed true to what the comics did. Let the movie come out before making such idiotic judgments. I swear, this website is probably the best at reporting comic book movie related stuff and its littered with nobody's who have to have their 2 cents on every movie. I want electro to shoot electricity out of his ass, they better add the right villain and the right cast member or I'm gonna yell "SHIT MOVIE" on a website that practically no mother [frick]ing director will ever get on!!!! Here's an idea. Quit bitching, get to writing and sell something so that you can be chosen to helm the next spider-man. I'm sure if any of you did, it would be SHIT and it would totally make you want to make a better movie if the same two losers wrote SHIT MOVIE every [frick]ing week. Fandboys are the reason no one can make a good comic book movie. We had two of the best CBMS this year and everyone had to bitch about them because they didn't contain enough action, they were too real, we've seen loki before. I mean are you even fans of the comics. Isn't it just enough to see a good movie about your favorite characters??!!!??!?!?!?!? Quit Bitching and be glad you're getting the movies that have come out lately and not the shit that came out in the 90s.

I don't like the title all that much, but it's OK, I guess. Harry and Peter were probably chidhood friends (almost like Eddie Brock and Peter in the Ultimate universe) and he moved to a private school or something, seeing as he's rich and Norman probably wanted the "best" for him.

As for MJ and Rhino not being mentioned, they'll probably have small roles. Rhino at the beginning in a short fight, and MJ at the end.

Not sure who Colm Feore will be...MAYBE Norman, maybe someone else.

I guess we'll see how this unfolds soon enough...

When are they gonna cast JJJameson & Brock??? They should be there when Peter gets a job at the Bugle.

@alamborn19 Lizard was in the last movie. How do not know that already? Were getting Electro & Rhino in this movie. We'll probably get the others in the trilogy.
