The Amazing Spider-Man is the story of Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield), an outcast high schooler who was abandoned by his parents as a boy, leaving him to be raised by his Uncle Ben (Martian Sheen) and Aunt May (Sally Field). Like most teenagers, Peter is trying to figure out who he is and how he got to be the person he is today. Peter is also finding his way with his first high school crush, Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone), and together, they struggle with love, commitment, and secrets. As Peter discovers a mysterious briefcase that belonged to his father, he begins a quest to understand his parents' disappearance - leading him directly to Oscorp and the lab of Dr Curt Connors (Rhys Ifans), his father's former partner. As Spider-Man is set on a collision course with Connors' alter-ego, The Lizard, Peter will make life-altering choices to use his powers and shape his destiny to become a hero.

Who the hell watches Ellen and records it with their phone? Get a TIVO and some taste. Ellen is almost as funny as the death of an immediate family member.

Ellen sucks.

I'm sorry...what was this article about?

Not Tivo? How the hell should I know? For most of my life phones still had cords that got all tangled up. Anywho- then something a lil more technologically advanced than whatever produced that footage up there.

Martian Sheen, Chairlie Sheen, and Emilihoratio Estevez.

Gwen: You think that was brave, what you did out there?

Peter looks up

Gwen: That was stupid, but it was great.

Peter nods kind of confused.

Gwen: You should probably go to the nurse, you might have a concussion.

Peter's still speechless.

Gwen: What's your name?

Peter: You don't know my name?

Gwen: No I know your name, I'm wondering if you know your name.

Peter: Uh, Peter...

Gwen waits for him to finish

Peter: Parker. Peter Parker.

Gwen: Okay good.
I'd still go to the nurse though.

Absolutely love how natural the dialogue is. Its one of the things I love about the character dialogue in most Spidey comics.

He truly is a nerd, one who chokes up and stutters in front of a pretty girl. Well done

Why is Garfield playing Peter like he has some kind of brain damage? Every twitchy, stuttery clip I've seen so far he seems like he is either on some kind of drugs or slightly mentally...differently abled.

I know some of it is to portray shyness and some is to show the effects of the super powers over taking him etc. but so far it just isn't working for me.

Also not a fan of Emma Stone, her voice bugs the hell outta me.

Having said that, can't wait for the movie! lol

@SpiderFan35 this time it's to portray that he may be suffering from a concussion after some sort of 'brave/stupid' thing he did before class, as the dialogue suggests

@ACira: Yeahhhh maybe...but he seems weird in other clips too, I think it is just Garfield's acting style. Lots of people seem to like it so whatev, it's just not working for me so far but maybe it will be better over the course of the full movie.

@SpiderFan35:
Personally, I don't think it's his acting style because he's been able to pull off other characterizations pretty well.

But there are definitely a lot of people who don't like what they see so far in these clips too. And you're right, he's twitchy and stutters in most of his Peter Parker clips. I like it because it creates a stark contrast to his personality in the suit. But, I think his Peter Parker persona will change as the series progresses. Maybe not in this film, but if the series continues with the characters in college, I think his Peter Parker will exude more confidence. Less speechlessness, less confused looks, etc.

A lot of people aren't happy with the dialogue. I think it's because it most closely resembles Brian Michael Bendis' dialogue from Ultimate Spider-man, which is very much Spidey, but younger and more in your face. My favorite writer of Spider-man dialogue has always been J. Michael Straczynski. People hated the plot of some of his story arcs, but his character work on Peter & MJ and the dialogue he wrote was beautiful.

@mrexcellent: Yeah I guess I meant that he was going with this particular style for this movie, because I agree he has been different in other films.

I also have to remember that this movie does seem to be directed at a younger audience which I am sadly no longer a part of lol. And there is definitely no "one" version of Peter Parker, every writer has their own take on him so I will just have to enjoy this one for what it is.

Peter just got beat up and humiliated in front of the school. Is he supposed to be jolly or something? He acts like someone who is picked on.

I like the fact that this series is going to be closer to the comics and less of the soap opera crap we got from Raimi and his crew. I'm guessing this is the first time Peter and Gwen talk to one another. In the comics, I know Gwen didn't like Peter at first but eventually they became friends and the end result is obvious. I am definitely supporting this unique new take on the Spiderman mythology. @Nomis: Nice post.
