Sam Raimi Talks Spider-Man 4 Villains...Sort of.

The helmer of the 3 Spider-Man films share his thoughts about possible foes for the Amazing Arachnid in his 4th outing.

MTV has an exclusive chat with Sam Raimi about Spider-man 4 Villains

here's an excerpt:

"I love the Lizard," said Raimi. "There's a great story there in the Marvel comic books about Dr. Connors. I'm less familiar with Carnage."

Raimi then took a long pause. "I'm not allowed to say at this point," he confessed.

Spilling the identity of the villain months before the film's prospective March shoot date was a little too much to hope. But Raimi was keen to illuminate his thought process regarding how and why he and his creative team select a specific villain. As he explained, it has less to do with the mention of a particular villain in an earlier film (as is the case with the Lizard) or about connecting the fourth film to another planned Marvel adaptation (see Carnage in "Venom").

Rather, the choice of a villain comes down to what makes most sense for the arc of Peter Parker's character. And with screenwriter Gary Ross still working on a draft of the script, everything is still very much in flux.

---
Basically he's just voicing his opinions about certain Spidey Villains. There's no official word yet on whom will Spidey be facing in his 4th movie outing.

Just announce it'll be Lizard already. He's sort of made it a bit obvious that's who he's going for, it's not like he'd be spoiling or surprising anyone by saying it's Lizard.

the good news is, we are all expecting The Lizard to be the main villain for this sequel

Secondly, the article about Captain America being cast has been deleted. Other sites were discrediting comicbookmovie due to the Beyonce fiasco and with this "update" of Chris being the choice for Captain America, it wouldn't reflect positively on the site

HONESTLLY THE LIZARD WOULD BE THE BEST WAY TO GO, THERES DRAMA IN THAT FOR PETER, TORN BETWEEN STOPPING THE BEAST WITHOUT HURTING HIS MENTOR OR ALLOWING HIM TO HURT ANYONE WITHOUT HURTING HIM IN THE PROCESS..THE LIZARD IS THE REASON WHY IN THE COMICS(FUTURE) HE LOSES HIS LEG AND RETIRES.

Although i love carnage, Raimi isn't too familiar with the character, and I don't want him messing carnage up the way he messed up venom. Maybe lizard is a good choice.

Is it possible its gonna be Carnage (done right) and Lizard...i mean actually itd make sense Connor did have a piece of it and even thought the venom synbiote actually gives birth to a red synbiote aka carnage they could use that right........right?!?!?!RIGHT?!?! haha i just want them to use carnage to be honest i think carnage and lizard would be good villain exposure but i think we can all agree the lizard will happen
Set2Fallfirst
Set2Fallfirst - 10/12/2009, 8:25 PM
And i know the synbiote needs to attach to a human within a certain time frame but idk just wishful thinking

Gotta be the lizard, maybe set up the sinister six with some hints at the end of the 4th fot the next two movies. i think that could be awesome

Carnage no way. I don't want another f*cked up symbiote story, and he just isn't needed at all.

thwhtGuardian - 10/12/2009, 9:09 PM
no carnage ever. His only good story was Maximum Carnage and that film just can't be made. I'd be down with the lizard, no need for kraven though he'd just add clutter to the movie.
on an aside note, do you use ad code or something on your posts access? Or is it just me who always gets pop up ads when I view his articles?

lizard and carnage would be perfect for the film!

although, as much as i love here's what i would absolutely love for the next coming spiderman trilogy:

spiderman 4: the lizard and carnage

spiderman V(engeance): mysterio and chameleon

spiderman - sinister six: hobgoblin, electro, rhino, vulture, scorpion, and a mystery 6th villain in charge, Kingpin?

Joe6Pack74 - 10/12/2009, 9:39 PM
It would be awesome to see Mysterio. No to Carnage, leave that one to the Venom movie should it happen.

lizard gets my vote. but make him look like a [frick]ing monster. they didnt do a good job at making venom very intimidating at all. they gotta work on that

CARNAGE IN VENOM!!!!

Too early to bring him into SPIDEY 4, he's not needed, so many other villains for SPIDEY like LIZARD & KRAVEN leading up to THE SINISTER SIX!

Don't let him do Carnage. He f-ucked up Venom because he wasn't a fan of the character. DON'T LET HIM DO IT AGAIN! save Carnage for the Venom spin off AND DO IT RIGHT THIS TIME!
DrStrange
DrStrange - 10/13/2009, 2:08 AM
Sinister six would be explosive for Spiderman 5 (or 6)!
It would be great for Spiderman 4 to see a flying villain like Vulture or Morbius. But I think Lizard is most likely...

Awesome news, bring on The Lizard!! Sounds like they'll follow Raimi's direction this time around, not the producers...

I am sort of coming around to the idea of Lizard and Kraven being in the next Spider-Man film even if I think villains like Scorpion and Electro would be much better! Im glad that Carnage wont be in the next one though - they [frick]ed Venom up enough!!!
HA11
HA11 - 10/13/2009, 2:05 PM
I think Lizard and Kraven would be great. As far as Carnage goes they should do a maximum carnage spin off and let some one who can stick to the story line write and direct it. but it would at least need to be a two part franchise.

RABB1T - 10/13/2009, 2:37 PM
As long Raimi had full control of the movie again, I say Yeah! go with sinister six for the 5th or 6th, but he must have full control, because we all know what happened with Spidy 3....

Ditko! Ditko! Ditko! Screw carnage! Stick to the classics!

Can everyone please read some OLD comics?! Amazing Spider-Man #'s 1 -300 and Marvel Team-Up #'s 1 - 150 contain all the material needed to make superior Spidey sequels! For those on a budget, any Marvel Tales reprints you can get your hands on will suffice!

We older fans have waited DECADES to see these films get made! Characters like Carnage should be given short shrift! Spider-Man has a fantastic rogue's gallery that needs to be taken advantage of! We need to see the Chameleon, the Tinkerer, Electro, Kraven the Hunter, the Shocker, Mysterio, the Lizard, the Circus of Crime, the Kingpin, the Vulture, the return of Doc Ock and the Scorpion!

I wouldn't use the Molten Man(too cheesy), the Jackal(same) or the Rhino(save him for his TRUE enemy -the Hulk!).

The one exception to the Ditko rule I'd allow for is the Hobgoblin! This guy gave Spidey fits for five years!! He turned out to be Ned Leeds, NOT Roderick Kingsley(that was a later development).

Back in 1986 and '87 the "Gang War" story from Amazing Spider-Man #'s 283 - 287 was all the rage! I would love to see that plot adapted for the big screen!

Remember New Avengers #1? Electro let all of the super-villains out of prison! I'd have the Kingpin hire him to do the same (with non-powered criminals)in Spidey 5, which would touch off the gang war!!
MyHeroAsh
MyHeroAsh - 10/13/2009, 4:39 PM
Damn,he should just keep it simple. Make Lizard the villain...the only villain and actually write a well-written story around it. Part one and two had only a single villain and were awesome movies. Part three had three villains(Harry turned good, at the end, but he was still a villain at some point), and look how that turned out. Stick to one and focus on story. That's what made these movies good, story.
JonF
JonF - 10/13/2009, 5:47 PM
dellamorte - Are you Sam Raimi's personal agent? Or maybe supermike's brother? STOP POSTING THE SAME DAMN IDEAS!

Hobgoblin came out in '82! How is that not old school? It's not 60's old school, but he's the best nemesis to come out of Spidey comics since the halcyon glory days as I explained above!

Hobgoblin is a different type of "goblin", because he's not insane like Norman or revenge driven like Harry! It's all about the mystery of his identity and the dangerous knowledge of Norman's secrets that he's procured exclusively! If he wore a Halloween mask instead of Norman's ceremonial helmet, it would work to greater effect onscreen! He would need to look very similar to the comic book version for it to work!

It may shock you to know this, but you're NOT the expert on all things Spider-Man!! Now what's your damn logic for having Electro team up with the Scorpion?

MyHeroAsh - If Lizard is the only villain part 4 will fail miserably! He's just not an interesting or strong enough character to carry the film as the sole antagonist!

The whole problem with Spidey 3 was with Venom! Had he not been there, more time could've been devoted to the Sandman! The guy's dangerous enough to take Spidey on his own!

scorpion, and lizard. at the end have the leftover symbiote attach to scorpion and make a LEGIT version of venom (II)
