It's no secret I'm the one of the bigger Spider-Man fans on this site. I have read thousands of Spider-Man comics and continue to read them when ever I get the chance (poopy time is Spidey time in my house!). I own all the cartoons, all the movies, all the guides, most of the novels, all the videogames, and even the old live action tv show from the 70's (it's really not that bad). After having watched The Amazing Spider-Man I caught a few things even major fans probably missed. My wife seemed to enjoy the movie a bit more after I pointed these things out that in my opinion help flesh the film out. Here are some of the more interesting things you might have missed:

Eugene "Flash" Thompson punches Peter in the face after Peter chastised him for bullying another student. Why did Flash punch Peter just for telling him to leave the kid alone? Because Peter used Flash's real name "Eugene." The reason Flash doesn't like to go by his first name is because his father is an alcoholic and abusive. His father's name is also Eugene. So Flash in turn isn't a big fan of his father, nor does he wish to carry around the name of the man who makes his life so miserable.

note: Sometimes the comics have Flash's father's name as Harrison Thompson. It depends on the writer. But who can blame them, even Stan Lee called Peter Parker "Peter Palmer" on at least one occasion. Having hundreds of characters in Marvel's vast library makes it a real chore to keep them all straight.

When Flash tries to talk to Peter after Uncle Ben dies Peter assumes he is going to give him a hard time like he does every day. After Peter slams Flash against a locker Flash says to Peter "It feels better right?" The reason he says this is because in the comics, it has been firmly established that Flash bullies other kids as a direct result of the way his own father bullies him. As bulling others makes him feel better. That's why Flash says "It feels better right?" Flash knows that lashing out when you have all that anger inside you makes you feel better.

After having been bite by the spider, Peter goes home and tries to wrap his mind around the zero decay rate algorithm. While reading up on it, instead of siting in his room he sits outside on the roof of his house. He has obviously never done that before as Uncle Ben sees him and tells him to be careful (other wise Ben would have said "there goes Peter on the roof again"). The reason Peter all the sudden has the urge to sit on the roof of his house is because his DNA has just been spliced with that of a spider. And spider's prefer to be in elevated postions for hunting, web making, and avoiding predators. Peter naturally takes on this urge himself without even knowing why. This urge was established in the stories "Peter Parker No More" "The Other" and the episode "Make a Wish" from the Spider-Man animated tv show in the 90's.

I have about a dozen more but I'll leave you with this one. The reason Peter can make such amazing shots with his webs and such amazing jumps and land so perfect is because of his spider sense. His ability to sense the distance of objects and make the perfect split second calculation is part of his natural abilites inherited from the spider. Take the scene of Peter in his room eating chinese food. After he finishes he tosses not only the box but the two chop sticks perfectly into the waste basket without even looking. That's because his spider sense affords him these abilities. We even see or hear it during the final swing. After he launches himself into the air during the final swing of the film, right before he shoots another web that takes him into the alley way we can hear the "spider sense noise." The reason for that is his spider sense was telling him not only where to shoot the web but how he would need to move in order to transfers the alley in a way only Spider-Man could.

Well there you have it, those are some of my favorite tidbits about The Amazing Spider-Man. If you guys like this article enough I'll do a write up of the other ten or so tidbits I noticed. And if you didn't like this article, I don't know, write something really mean in the comments. Like post a picture of Dan Slott or something. Thanks for reading!

The movie is still mediocre.

Its funny how people say its mediocre, when its a lot more faithful to the comics than the Raimi films were.

I think the movie was awesome but any comic nerd worth his salt already knows these things. Hopefully in your next installment you can teach me something.

@ElectricSuperman: Being faithful to the comics doesn't guarantee a film will be good. It was meh because the Lizard was not an interesting villain. The music sucked and the fighting wasn't spectacular at all.

@Hush2010: Your statement makes no sense. What you think and what you know are two completely different things. I thought the movie was mediocre. That is my opinion. It doesn't have to be justified for you or anyone else.

There are so many things in TASM that people cant see. I mean its very well writted, but people cant see details. Raimi movies had childish story, everything very simple, then TASM has so many details in movie but people can´t see it and saying its not exmpalined, so its bad writting.

People should open their eyes.

fighting wasnt specacular at all? this is first movie where spiderman uses real web to fight against lizard while in other movies it did not have any.
music sucked? old movies did not have any music at all.
how about old movies? old movies had crappy story, crappy cgi, crappy fighting scenes, not faithful to comics, chlidish, too bright, too cheesy. How you explain that Luminus?

Liminus is kinda type of guy who say what everyone else says.

For example, people say JB sucks, he is worst singer ever. Many people say that because some people say that too, even tho those who copy thier words never even maybe heard of JB or never seen any his songs.

You suck yourself. GET A LIFE

Spider-Man 2
1. Doc Ock needs information from Peter Parker to find Spider-Man, yet before that, Doc Ock throws a car to Peter Parker to kill Peter Parker and never find info about Spider-Man.
2. Doc Ock knew exactly where Peter Parker was at moment in New York city.

5.Flint Marco happens to fall into the sand pit at exactly the moment the scientists test their billion-dollar Dyson vacuum.
6.The asteroid carrying the symbiotic (ultimately, Venom) happens to land next to Peter Parker. The Only superhero on world, and it lands next to Peter Parker. Also Peter doesn’t hear it, doesn’t investigate, yet he is Spider-Man, who sees and hears everything.
8.The symbiotic happens to attach itself to Peter’s scooter.

It was a good movie, aside from the feel of the movie (where it seems like a teen comedy), and the background music......

raimi's version are more like for family and kids, which is popular and hits to them.
marc webb's version are more like interesting, and still has missing points that should be answered. and the fighting scenes aren't amazing at all, that people think it didn't top raimi's version.
Yeah, I honestly love raimis version when I was just a kid, but now I'm looking forward to the sequel, I hope marc webb doesn't disappoint me this time.
IMO I like TASM

Interesting article, wasn't aware of the stuff about Flash's father (I think I knew he was an alcoholic, but not the stuff about his name or his abuse of Flash).

With the Flash stuff, though, they were in a tough spot - the movie's about Peter Parker, not Flash, so they can't really go into his past and how his father made him a bully, but because they didn't do that, the character is seen by some as one dimensional.

I fear I may be losing touch with this site, it seems my opinions lately are almost always the opposite of everyone else, like the fact that I didn't like TDKR when everyone else did, or the fact I loved TASM and Iron Man 3 when everyone else hated them.
